Baby-friendly Mokdong seafood spot, mild haemuljjim: Jumak Haemulchon

Jumak Haemulchon (주막해물촌) is a Korean seafood restaurant specializing in steamed seafood on Mokdongjungangseo-ro 1-gil in Mokdong, Seoul. A spice-averse family dined there with their parents and a younger child still on baby food, ordering a small haemuljjim (steamed seafood in spicy sauce) and a whole steamed squid. The owner asked about spice level in advance and kept the dishes mild, so everyone enjoyed them to the last bite. With adjustable spice, baby chairs and parking right out front, Jumak Haemulchon suits three-generation family meals well.

Marker Hair Magok Station Branch is a one-stylist hair salon on the 1st floor of Metro Biz Tower near Magok Station in Gangseo, Seoul. With careful consultation, quick hands and a Maltese dog, Marker Hair Magok Station Branch made a good spot for a quick refresh before picking up her child.

Namdaemun kids' shop: pumpkin skirt & ruffle pants, Apple Smile

Apple Smile is a kids' clothing shop at unit 12 of the Burdeng Kids' Clothing building (부르뎅아동복) in Namdaemun Market, Jung-gu, Seoul. When the weather suddenly turned cold and her child needed clothes for daycare, a mom made her first kids' clothing trip to Namdaemun Market, browsed the Apple Smile website with her child beforehand, then bought ruffle pants and a pumpkin-silhouette skirt that the child chose herself in the shop. Verdict: even a child who found shopping a chore ended up picking her own clothes at Apple Smile, and the only letdown was that one item was out of stock in the wanted size.

Myeongdong marinated pork rib BBQ with a 6-year-old: Yuktongnyeong

Yuktongnyeong Myeongdong Main Branch is a Korean BBQ restaurant spread over floors 1 to 3 on Myeongdong 8na-gil in Jung-gu, Seoul. A parent and a 6-year-old daughter shared 1 serving of omija-aged Gwanggaeto handmade pork ribs with tojang doenjang stew, dongchimi cold noodles and rice, and staff grilled the meat from start to finish, leaving the parent free to look after the child. Thanks to a pork rib marinade that is neither too sweet nor too salty, the daughter even sang while eating, making Yuktongnyeong a good pick for eating with kids around Myeongdong and Namdaemun.

Gangseo, Seoul Korean BBQ: pork platter with pajjim, Gwangseonjip

Gwangseonjip Kkachisan Station Main Branch is a Korean BBQ restaurant near Exit 2 of Kkachisan Station in Gangseo, Seoul, where staff grill Jeju black pork specialty cuts for you. The writer ordered the mixed platter of ogyeopsal (five-layer pork belly), kkodeulsal (a chewy pork cut) and pork cheek with pajjim (steamed scallions), added more kkodeulsal, finished with a generous bowl of kimchi mari guksu (cold kimchi noodle soup), and was pleased with the welcome service and the interior. Because diners never have to grill, Gwangseonjip makes conversation easy and is worth recommending for family dinners and group meetups.
