Gyeongju Hwangridan-gil restaurant: yukjeon platter and sikhye

There are so many pretty cafés and dessert spots around Hwangridan-gil in Gyeongju, but sometimes when you're traveling, what you really want is a solid Korean meal. While looking for somewhere to eat on Hwangridan-gil during this trip to Gyeongju, I ended up at Dongyang Baekban Gyeongju Hwangridan-gil Main Branch.

It was a great spot for a meal during the Gyeongju trip — clean, comfortable atmosphere and solid Korean food. Today I'll walk through the vibe, the menu, and the food at this Gyeongju restaurant, Dongyang Baekban, from my actual visit.

While wandering around Hwangridan-gil during the trip, I stopped by Dongyang Baekban Gyeongju Hwangridan-gil Main Branch for lunch. There are so many restaurants on Hwangridan-gil, but that day I was craving something hearty and Korean to fuel the trip. If you like Korean food, this is a place worth checking out while you're in Gyeongju :)

This trip to Gyeongju wasn't a couple's date but a trip with a baby, and naturally you check for a lot more things when picking a restaurant with a baby in tow. I tend to prefer places where a family can eat comfortably rather than somewhere too crowded or inconvenient, and this day's plan was to explore Hwangridan-gil and eat at Dongyang Baekban.

When traveling, I end up seeking out pretty cafés and desserts a lot too, but after walking around all day, a proper meal is truly essential for my stamina... Especially in a place like Gyeongju with so much to see, eating well at mealtime really makes the rest of the day easier to enjoy.

What we ordered at Dongyang Baekban

Looking at the menu, we ordered what caught our curiosity most: tomato cheese chicken stew, a full plate of yukjeon, caviar rice, and gondeure rice. We also ordered the sikhye sold at Dongyang Baekban. Even the menu names felt like a slightly different combination from the Korean food we usually eat, so we were curious how it would taste. Ordering several dishes filled the table up quickly, which was great for sharing as a group.

Since this was our first meal on a trip with three friends, we ordered everything we felt like eating, and sharing it all around the table was pure heaven.

The main dish we ordered, tomato cheese chicken stew, was the one I was most curious about since it's such a different combination from a regular chicken stew — but it turned out the tomato flavor wasn't as strong as I expected, and the broth was slightly spicy yet savory, so it was an easy dish for pretty much anyone to enjoy without any hesitation!

For the yukjeon (pan-fried beef), there was a half plate and a full plate option, and since we were really hungry, we went ahead and ordered the full plate. It came with 4 large pieces, plenty for the three of us as a side dish.

For the rice, the caviar rice had real caviar piled generously on top, so every spoonful had a little pop of texture that went really well with the chicken stew seasoning. And the gondeure rice — no words needed..!! Mixing it all up with the seasoning was seriously good!

Is Dongyang Baekban worth it on Hwangridan-gil?

On this trip to Gyeongju with a baby, it was great to eat a solid, delicious Korean meal at Dongyang Baekban Gyeongju Hwangridan-gil Main Branch and still have plenty of time to explore Hwangridan-gil at leisure! If you're looking for good Korean food in Gyeongju or on Hwangridan-gil, I think this place is worth a visit. With so many dishes to enjoy together, I'd recommend it not just for a family meal but also for anyone looking for a date spot on Hwangridan-gil.
