Tonkatsu restaurant in Cheomdan, Gwangju: cold soba with hire katsu
In short
Jeongseong Katsu, Cheomdan Branch is a Japanese tonkatsu (pork cutlet) restaurant on Cheomdan Jungang-ro in Ssangam-dong, Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju. On a sweltering summer evening, the blogger ordered the icy cold soba set with the cutlet swapped for hire (pork tenderloin) katsu, plus the Jeongseong mixed katsu platter and karaage. All three dishes arrived at once, with no waiting. Verdict: the chilled soba broth and the crisp-outside, juicy-inside hire katsu at Jeongseong Katsu made a satisfying summer dinner.

Hellooo~ As a total tonkatsu (pork cutlet) lover, I wanted a hearty dinner, so this time I went to the Cheomdan branch instead of the Jinwol branch of Jeongseong Katsu (정성카츠), and I'm leaving a revisit review for this Cheomdan pork cutlet spot!

What are the entrance and parking like at Jeongseong Katsu Cheomdan?
There are two entrances! One connects to the outside, and the other leads to the restroom inside the building, so keep that in mind. The exterior looks clean and quite spacious, and the menu posted out front caught my eye even more, haha.

Slurp~

The car park is right at the Jeongseong Katsu building, tidy and with plenty of spaces, so parking is quick and easy. It seems great for families or groups too!!!

Evening atmosphere in the dining hall and waiting
It was dinner time, so as soon as I walked in I saw lots of delivery orders, office workers and groups of friends. The hall was clean, with a warm, homey wood-tone feel. The kitchen and delivery prep area looked really busy with fast turnover, yet the staff kindly explained everything one by one, which I appreciated. There's also a waiting machine, but luckily I got in right away with no wait!

Menu and how to order
Please check the menu board!

You order by kiosk at each table! For the summer we got the refreshing cold soba (buckwheat noodles), the Jeongseong mixed katsu as the signature, and karaage (Japanese fried chicken) on top. Check the photos for prices~

Icy cold soba set with the cutlet changed to hire katsu
Ta-da~! See how generously it's put together, with nothing lacking for a full meal? The Jeongseong mixed katsu, the cold soba set and the karaage all came out at once, so it was great for photos, nicely laid out, and no waiting!

I'd had the icy cold soba at the Jinwol branch too, and it was so good I ordered it again. It looks refreshing just sitting there, with ice floating in it, and the broth is clean, so the buckwheat noodles and broth together are so good. With the recent heat hitting 40 degrees, I really recommend it!!!!
I changed the cutlet in the cold soba set to hire katsu (tenderloin), and it was crisp outside and moist inside, the batter wasn't heavy and it wasn't greasy at all. Totally satisfied!!!!!

What comes with the Jeongseong mixed katsu?
The mixed set comes with salad, a clear soup (jangguk) and curry sauce, and the side dishes served with it are all really tasty too. The meat is thick and juicy, and it's fried to order, so it's crisp outside and tender inside, so good... Eating the mixed set with the cold soba broth or the soup also leaves your mouth feeling clean. And for the record, the hire katsu was the one I liked best, hehe.

Side dish: karaage
The karaage I ordered as a side was fried in bite-size pieces, crispy outside with juicy chicken thigh inside, and I loved it. But honestly, the sauce that came with it was the real winner. The seasoning is just right, it's tasty even on its own, and with no love-it-or-hate-it divide, it's a side anyone of any age will enjoy, haha.

Good to know before you visit
The restroom is a shared one inside the building, so keep that in mind. The interior is clean, and besides tonkatsu you can pick noodles or rice bowls to suit your taste, so it's a good Cheomdan spot to visit again and again. I highly recommend it. It's well kept, the staff were very kind, and we could chat comfortably while enjoying the meal. It's also great for solo dining, office workers, or a lunch date!!!!!
