Gildong Japanese fusion bar date with tuna tartare: Gamdong Dining
In short
Gildong Gamdong Dining (감동다이닝) is a Japanese-inspired fusion dining bar in Gildong, Gangdong, Seoul, between Gubeundari Station and Gildong Station. On a date with her husband, the writer ordered tuna avocado tartare, one whole giant futomaki roll, abalone innards pasta and the hibiscus Gamdong highball, and found both the Japanese-style interior and the food quality satisfying. For a date spot with atmosphere in Gangdong, Gildong Gamdong Dining is a good choice.

I love going on dates with my husband somewhere with a nice atmosphere. Gangnam, Apgujeong and Seongsu have plenty of lovely restaurants, but in Gangdong it's honestly not that easy to find a place where you think, "Let's go there today!" Then I found Gamdong Dining (감동다이닝) in Gildong.✨ The exterior already felt so atmospheric, and the food quality was good too, so it was a satisfying date spot.
Where is Gildong Gamdong Dining, and is there parking?
Gamdong Dining is at 13 Cheonjung-ro 53-gil, Gangdong-gu, Seoul, on the 1st floor. It sits between Gubeundari Station and Gildong Station on Line 5, about an 8–10 minute walk from either.

There is a parking spot you're directed to, but it's small, so I'd recommend taking public transport if you can.

There's also a menu board in front of the entrance, so you can check what's on offer before going in.
Inside Gamdong Dining: a Japanese interior that feels like a trip to Japan

The wood-toned interior and soft lighting made it cozy. There's an open kitchen with a bar table, so you can watch the cooking too. Best of all were the Japanese-style posters hung all around!

Looking at those stylish posters, I felt like I was on a quick trip to Japan even though we were right in the middle of Gildong. I loved that.

The tables are spaced comfortably too, so it's a nice setting for a date, or for a quiet meal with family.
Gamdong Dining menu and what we ordered

Gamdong Dining offers a wide range, from aged sashimi to futomaki (thick seaweed rice rolls), pasta, grilled dishes, fried dishes and soups. It's Japanese-based with little fusion touches here and there, which made choosing fun. This is what we ordered that day.
- Tuna avocado tartare
- One whole giant futomaki roll
- Abalone innards pasta
- Gamdong highball (hibiscus)

Before the mains, a simple side dish came out first: sweet and sour seaweed salad with konjac. It freshened up the palate and naturally got our appetites going.
Tuna avocado tartare: best wrapped in gamtae (roasted seaweed)
The first dish to arrive at Gamdong Dining was the tuna avocado tartare.

It looked so pretty that I couldn't not take photos.

We drizzled a little quail egg broth over the top and mixed it lightly. The freshness of the tuna and the softness of the avocado went well together, and the cheese and flying fish roe on top gave it a lively mix of textures.

Wrapping it in the gamtae (a type of seaweed) that came with it added a sea aroma and nuttiness, and the flavor was much better. It has a different charm from eating it plain, so I recommend trying it with the gamtae!
Giant futomaki for two: a whole roll or a half?
The giant futomaki is one of Gamdong Dining's most famous dishes, a signature. My husband eats a lot, so I thought, "Wouldn't half a roll be a bit too little?" and boldly ordered a whole one. But... when it arrived, we were both shocked. 🫢

It's hard to tell from the photos, but the diameter was about the size of a finger. It really was a "giant" futomaki, just like the name. Each piece was sizable, and it filled us up much more than expected. The fillings, including tuna, salmon, egg and cucumber, were generous, and the seaweed wasn't tough, so it was easy to eat. The portion for two was quite big though, so next time I think ordering half a roll would be fine. 🙌
What does the abalone innards pasta taste like?

Next was Gamdong Dining's abalone innards pasta. Made with abalone innards, it had a rich, creamy, nutty flavor that was really good.

The abalone on top was chewy too. 🥰
Hibiscus Gamdong highball: does it pair with rich food?
We couldn't skip a drink to refresh the palate, right?🍻 I ordered the hibiscus flavor from Gamdong Dining's Gamdong highballs.

It had a subtle floral scent and a bright tartness, so it paired well with the rich dishes. Not too sweet and not too strong, so it was easy to drink.
Final verdict on Gildong Gamdong Dining for a date
It was a restaurant that made me think, for the first time in a while, "Wow, our neighborhood has a nice place like this?"😊 I think you'll like Gamdong Dining if you are:
- Looking for a date spot
- Looking for a Japanese dining place with a nice atmosphere
- A fan of futomaki and abalone innards pasta
If you're wondering where to have a special meal in Gildong, I recommend visiting Gamdong Dining once. 💛
