6 a.m. Yongin Korean buffet: DIY lunchbox for Caribbean Bay, Daedong
In short
Daedong Korean Buffet & Dosirak (대동한식뷔페&도시락) is a Korean buffet in Yangji-eup, Cheoin-gu, Yongin, that opens at 6 a.m. and lets diners fill a lunchbox themselves from the buffet side dishes. On the morning of a Caribbean Bay trip, a family of five stopped at Daedong Korean Buffet & Dosirak for toast to take the edge off their hunger, then packed jeyuk bokkeum (spicy stir-fried pork), namul (seasoned vegetables) and pork cutlet to eat for lunch at the water park. Daedong Korean Buffet & Dosirak is a good way to sort out both breakfast and lunch costs on an Everland or Caribbean Bay day.

We went to Caribbean Bay a few days ago. We got up early, got everyone ready for the water park, and then my husband, the kids and I stopped somewhere on the way, all excited: Daedong Korean Buffet & Dosirak (대동한식뷔페&도시락), right near Yangji. I found it while searching for a good buffet in Cheoin-gu, Yongin, and its location is super convenient before Everland or Caribbean Bay. If meals are a headache on your Everland or Caribbean Bay days, this might help.

What time does Daedong Korean Buffet & Dosirak open?
It opens at 6 a.m. That's the biggest plus of this Korean buffet in Yangji, Yongin. On theme park days you have to move early, and being able to get a warm meal that early is so reassuring. This time we didn't eat in; we picked up lunchboxes and headed off to Caribbean Bay.

There are so many side dishes~ The soups were kimchi soup and nurungji (scorched rice tea).

How do you pack a lunchbox at Daedong Korean Buffet?
It runs as a buffet, and if you want a lunchbox you pick the sides you like and pack the box yourself. Even though it was morning, there were already customers eating.

What went into our lunchbox: jeyuk bokkeum, eggplant namul and pork cutlet
The selection was pretty solid. There were protein sides like jeyuk-bokkeum (spicy stir-fried pork) and fried eggs, which felt hearty, plus my absolute favorites, gaji-namul (seasoned eggplant) and gosari-namul (bracken fern). The moment I saw those two, my satisfaction shot up. I could choose multigrain or white rice, which was nice too. There were also kid favorites like pork cutlet and sausages, so we packed a bit of everything.

Breakfast at Daedong: cereal, toast and coffee
They had the classic breakfast lineup: cereal with milk, bread with jam, and coffee. We had left early and were hungry, so we each toasted a slice of bread and ate it^^

If we had eaten in, we could have cooked ramen and enjoyed dessert at leisure, but we left with some regret. The kids were pretty disappointed too, but we took only the lunchboxes so we could make the Caribbean Bay opening rush.

Is the food at Daedong Korean Buffet strongly seasoned?
The food tasted like home cooking, not harsh or over-seasoned. I saw a notice on one side saying they don't use MSG-type seasoning, only a little dashida (beef stock powder). Maybe that's why everything tasted clean and mild. The kids ate well without any fuss, which made me even happier.

Homemade sikhye and other drinks
The homemade sikhye (sweet rice drink) was good too. It wasn't too sweet and tasted like the sikhye I had as a kid, which was a nice surprise. My kids went for the sikhye first thing when we walked in, haha.

The selection isn't wide, but they also have sodas and alcohol. Good to know if you want a drink with your meal~

Ready-packed lunchboxes you can buy on the spot
On the way out, I saw lunchboxes stacked up near the entrance like this. If you want a ready-made lunchbox, you can apparently just buy one on the spot.
They also keep a little vegetable garden in front of the restaurant. It felt like a place that prepares its food with care, which made me trust it more. If you're looking for a good-value Korean buffet in Cheoin-gu, Yongin, Daedong Korean Buffet & Dosirak is worth a stop.

Can you bring a packed lunch into Caribbean Bay?
Before the Caribbean Bay entrance there's a separate food storage area, so leaving our Daedong lunchboxes was easy. There's a refrigerated room, and the room-temperature one had the air conditioning blasting, so we stored them without worry. After lots of water play, around lunchtime we stepped out past the entrance and ate them. You know how a lunchbox somehow tastes better when you eat it outside, right? The sides were varied and filling, and the whole family was happy with that meal.
Caribbean Bay with a family of five: how we cut food costs
In Caribbean Bay's high season there's also a perk of free Everland entry after 6 p.m., so we played until evening. Dinner was simple, just rice balls we'd made at home, and since the Daedong lunchbox lunch was so filling, it was plenty.
With five of us and three kids who eat a lot, food costs are always a worry, so I was extra happy that we got through the day on a good-value budget this time. Next time we come to Everland or Caribbean Bay, we'll probably use the lunchboxes again. If you're looking for a buffet in Cheoin-gu, Yongin, wondering what to eat before Everland or Caribbean Bay, or want a hearty meal near Yangji, Daedong Korean Buffet & Dosirak is worth a look.
