Mugyo-dong Yeongmi Nakji Anyang Main Branch is a Korean octopus restaurant on Ereseu-ro in Hogye-dong, Anyang. A family ordered the Value Set for 2 and Nakji Jeongsik (octopus set meal) for 2, sharing spicy stir-fried octopus, seafood pajeon (savory pancake), clam soup, bossam (boiled pork) and seasoned dried radish. The stir-fried octopus at Mugyo-dong Yeongmi Nakji is large, plump and milder than expected, which makes it a good fit for family meals where everyone wants to try several dishes at once.

Korean BBQ near Anyang Station with outdoor-style seating: Manshikine

Manshikine Sotddukkeong Samgyeopsal Megatria (만식이네 솥뚜껑삼겹살) is a Korean BBQ restaurant that grills pork belly and pork neck on cauldron lids, located in the Megatria building near Anyang Station in Anyang. Its couple set of 250g pork belly and 250g pork neck costs 38,000 won and comes with seonji haejangguk (ox blood hangover soup) as the default soup; we added naengmyeon (cold noodles) and ate in a lively outdoor-style setting. With fresh domestic pork, generous portions and free parking, Manshikine is a good-value pork belly spot worth recommending in Anyang.

Gangnam pasta & risotto spot, 15-min weekend lunch wait: Eulji Darak

Eulji Darak Gangnam Station (을지다락 강남역점) is a Western-style pasta and risotto restaurant between Gangnam Station and Sinnonhyeon Station in Gangnam, Seoul, a 5-minute walk from Gangnam Station Exit 11. At weekend lunch the wait at Eulji Darak was about 15 minutes, the waitlist only accepted the party once everyone had arrived, and the order was brisket perilla pasta, spicy crab risotto and two ades. Pairing a nutty dish with a spicy one kept the meal from ever feeling greasy, making Eulji Darak a solid Gangnam Station pasta pick.

Solsot Sangam Branch (솔솥 상암점) is a pot rice (sotbap) restaurant on basement level 1 next to DMC Park in Sangam-dong, Mapo, Seoul. The writer ordered steak pot rice and yurinchi (crispy fried chicken in a tangy sauce) for lunch, broke the egg and mixed it into the steak pot rice, and finished with nurungji (scorched rice from the bottom of the pot). Gangneung sunset-view spa stay in Jumunjin: Dangsinuianmok Grass 402

Dangsinuianmok Juncheon (당신의안목 주문진점) is a seaside ocean-view stay with in-room spa tubs near Jumunjin Port in Gangneung, Gangwon. The writer booked Grass Room 402 for a price in the ₩160,000s on a Sunday in June and enjoyed sunset sea-gazing, the room spa and walks on the beach right outside, though the windows have no privacy film and the hair dryer is weak. For a quiet Jumunjin sea view enjoyed from inside the room, Dangsinuianmok Juncheon was a satisfying pick in the ₩100,000s.

Gangneung tofu noodle soup spot: kiwi sauce buckwheat gimbap, Gossi's

Gossi's Donghae Makguksu & Sundubu Kalguksu Main Branch is a beachfront restaurant in Gangneung, Gangwon, serving house-made makguksu (buckwheat noodles) and sundubu kalguksu (soft tofu noodle soup). At a weekend lunch with her boyfriend, the writer walked in with no wait and ordered the set for two (perilla oil makguksu, spicy sundubu kalguksu and suyuk, or boiled pork slices) plus a salad buckwheat gimbap, and enjoyed the spicy sundubu kalguksu despite not handling spice well. Verdict: the kiwi sauce salad buckwheat gimbap beat expectations at Gossi's, so order it alongside the sundubu kalguksu.

Samgakji izakaya after a War Memorial visit: yuzu sawa, Hatpiendo

Hatpiendo is an izakaya on Yongridan-gil, right in front of Samgakji Station in Yongsan, Seoul. After a weekend visit to the War Memorial of Korea, the blogger walked to Hatpiendo and ordered the mackerel bar sushi (limited to 5 a day) and Japanese-style braised pork belly (buta kakuni), with a shomaek (shochu and beer) and a yuzu sawa; the mackerel had no fishy taste and the pork belly was tender. Hatpiendo is a calm Samgakji bar with high-quality food, well suited to a date or a night out with friends.

Beomgye pasta & steak spot, Set A with orange juice: Two Find Peter

Two Find Peter Beomgye Branch is a Western restaurant serving pasta, risotto and steak on the 5th floor of Park Avenuel, a 3-minute walk from Beomgye Station in Anyang, Gyeonggi. The writer had Set A (59,000 won for pasta, risotto, steak and a drink) at a window seat. The highlights were the spicy crabby pasta paired with abalone innards cream risotto and the tender sous vide pork neck steak. For a Beomgye date or family meal that balances atmosphere and value, Two Find Peter's Set A is a safe choice.

Galbijjim before PSY's Summer Swag in Gwacheon: Gohyang Sogalbijjim

Gohyang Sogalbijjim Gwacheon is a braised beef short rib (galbijjim) and short rib soup (galbitang) restaurant in Gwacheon, Gyeonggi, within walking distance of Government Complex Gwacheon Station and Gwacheon Station. Before PSY's Summer Swag water concert (Heumppeok Show) in Gwacheon, the writer had an early dinner of regular and extra-large galbijjim with a potato noodle add-on, and the garlicky, spicy sauce and meat that came easily off the bone stood out. At just over 10,000 won a dish, Gohyang Sogalbijjim Gwacheon is a filling, good-value galbijjim spot in Gwacheon.

Gangnam hair salon 1-hour Shiseido clinic for blow-dry frizz: Park Jun

Park Jun Beauty Lab Gangnam Branch is a hair salon in Gangnam, Seoul, a 2-minute walk from Sinnonhyeon Station, offering hair clinic treatments and free parking. After a consultation with Senior Designer Jiyeon, the writer's hair, dry and badly tangled from daily blow-drying, was treated with a Shiseido Salon Solution clinic for just over ₩200,000, including the long-hair surcharge. In about 1 hour the hair combed through smoothly without tangles, a treatment the writer now wants to get regularly.
