Cheongju Korean restaurant for gochujang bulgogi: Oneul Haru
In short
Oneul Haru is a Korean restaurant in Gagyeong-dong, Cheongju, serving individual home-style set meals and stone-pot rice. I enjoyed gondre stone-pot rice and gochujang bulgogi stone-pot rice with Jang Teacher on a hospital day off. Verdict: a filling, reasonably priced meal I’d happily return for.

Looking for a neat stone-pot rice meal in Gagyeong-dong?
Today, I visited Oneul Haru (오늘하루), a Korean restaurant in Gagyeong-dong, Cheongju. This Heungdeok-gu spot cooks everything itself, and its neat individual home-style meal trays made it such a great-value place I’d want to visit often.

Oneul Haru is at 110–112, 1F, 87 Seohyeonbuk-ro, Heungdeok-gu, Cheongju, Chungbuk, South Korea (충북 청주시 흥덕구 서현북로 87 1층 110-112호). It is open from 11:00 to 22:00, with last orders at 21:00.

Today was a hospital day off~!! I went to Oneul Haru to have dinner with Jang Teacher for the first time in ages, timing it with the end of Jang Teacher’s shift. Jang Teacher had already been here and said it is famous at the hospital as a great home-style restaurant.

A warm atmosphere and seating in a Gangseo-dong alley
Tucked away among the Gangseo-dong alleys, it has a menu board with photos outside, which is nice for checking things out in advance. The wood-toned exterior feels warm, and there is a waiting bench at the entrance. Underground parking in the building is free for one hour!

The whole place felt comfortable and cozy. There are tables for everything from two people to groups, making it perfect for group gatherings. The areas with partitions between tables are also lovely for couples or two people who want to chat privately!

You can conveniently order using the tablet at your table.

Fill up on the side dishes you want at the self-serve corner
The cute little decorative items placed around the restaurant also catch your eye :) There is a self-serve corner near the entrance where you can get more tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes), fried foods, and assorted side dishes.

Personally, I prefer a self-serve bar where I can get what I want myself instead of asking staff! Being able to eat unlimited amounts of just the side dishes that suit my taste is such a big plus 😆❤️

The tteokbokki was sweet, mild, and nicely thick! It is great as a side dish.

Oneul Haru’s main menu and the stone-pot rice we ordered
The main menu includes LA galbi stone-pot rice set, buckwheat soba pork cutlet set, gondre stone-pot rice set, braised mackerel and radish set, grilled fish gondre stone-pot rice, gochujang bulgogi gondre stone-pot rice, handmade pork cutlet chirool, pork cutlet curry, and shrimp tempura curry. As someone who loves a wholesome bowl of stone-pot rice, this is truly somewhere I want to visit often!

Gondre stone-pot rice set and gochujang bulgogi gondre stone-pot rice
We ordered the gondre stone-pot rice set and gochujang bulgogi gondre stone-pot rice. The table was loaded with rice, soup, side dishes, and even meat as the main side dish—it really made us feel treated! The portions are filling for a reasonable price, too, so the value is excellent.

This nutritious stone-pot rice meal was made with gondre, a mountain herb, and came with seasoned soy sauce and gim (roasted seaweed). I like lightly seasoned food, so I ate it without the sauce; even on its own, the rice had a delicious nutty sweetness!

Finish stone-pot rice with warm sungnyung
After setting some rice aside, you simply add warm water to the pot to get sungnyung (toasted rice tea) ready. The soup was miyeokguk (seaweed soup), and it was even tastier with the freshly cooked rice and all the various side dishes 😆😆

The spicy-sweet gochujang bulgogi arrived, and I could not believe this whole meal was only ₩15,000. It feels incredibly affordable in this era of high prices!

Maybe because everything is made with fresh ingredients, all the side dishes were high quality!

The reason I love stone-pot rice is sungnyung! It was such a delicious ending to a good rice meal—warm, satisfying sungnyung.

There are even palate-cleansing candies by the exit~ 🍭 If you want a filling meal at a reasonable price in Gagyeong-dong, Cheongju, do visit Oneul Haru at least once~ ❤️
