How to reserve at Tteokmidang

I made a reservation and visited Tteokmidang, a rice cake shop beside the Lotte Outlet in Cheongju's Jwell City! I was only planning to prepare honey seolgi (steamed white rice cake with honey) as a custom rice cake for a first-birthday celebration, so I looked for a shop near home. Tteokmidang in Jwell City was recommended to me, so I booked through Naver Booking and went. Moms had recommended it as a place near Bokdae-dong and Jwell City that sells return-gift rice cakes and baegil (100-day celebration) and first-birthday table-setting cakes. I bought songpyeon (half-moon rice cakes) too, so I selected songpyeon for my Naver reservation, then added the first-birthday rice cakes.

Tteokmidang's Jwell City exterior and parking

Tteokmidang is on the first floor of the building directly across from the Lotte Outlet entrance beside Jwell City, and there is a parking lot behind the building, so parking was available too~ Instead of the entrance on the main road at the front, you can also enter through the passageway from the rear parking lot.

On weekends, the hanbok shop in this building is popular, so there may not be a parking space. But for the brief moment you're picking up your rice cakes, I think it would be fine to put on your hazard lights, stop for a moment, and quickly pick them up.

Baegil and first-birthday table settings, plus return-gift rice cakes

Tteokmidang has also started selling Chuseok songpyeon gift sets, and you can order baegil and first-birthday table-setting return-gift rice cakes and rice-cake cakes! Usually, most orders are possible if you call the shop or inquire through Naver Booking one day, or two to three days, in advance, so it seemed really good even for urgently ordering return-gift rice cakes. The baegil and first-birthday 3-item table-setting set can be ordered like this for ₩45,000, and you can change the baekseolgi (plain steamed white rice cake) to honey seolgi for an additional ₩2,000. But I think honey seolgi tastes better, and Tteokmidang's rice cakes are not overly sweet, so I made the switch. For the baegil table-setting set, you can choose the color of the lettering on the baegil seolgi. You can choose pink or black, whichever you prefer.

Unlike the baegil table setting, the first-birthday one has only one lettering color, so I could not choose it. Still, it was convenient to buy the prettily colored kkultteok (honey-filled rice cakes), susupat-tteok (sorghum and red-bean rice cakes), and the 3-item table-setting cakes all at once~

This was a basic rice-cake table-setting set apart from the baegil and first-birthday options, and they told me people usually order it as a custom birthday rice-cake set. Older family members tend to prefer rice cakes to bread, so it seems like the sort of set that would earn you points if you brought it for your parents' birthday.

Songpyeon made that morning and sikhye

I had not ordered them in advance, but there were many types of rice cakes for sale in the shop, so I had a look around. With Chuseok season coming soon, there was lots of songpyeon out. They were selling songpyeon made that morning for ₩4,000 per pack, so I bought some as a snack to share with my parents! They enjoyed them and said they were delicious, which made me feel so pleased. A thought flashed through my mind: should I buy songpyeon from Tteokmidang for Chuseok… should I?ㅜ

Besides rice cakes, they also sell large bottles of sikhye (sweet rice drink) and snack-size sikhye. The small size was just right as a palate cleanser, while the large size was generous enough to keep at home and share with the family. Anyone who likes sikhye would probably be drawn to it. Here I am, someone who can never get enough sweet sikhye. So of course, I bought sikhye too :)

The honey seolgi I bought played a pretty part in making the first-birthday party look lovely.
