Jeju Airport fish restaurant for a first-night dinner: Hwadeogeuro

On the day I started my month-long stay in Jeju, I stopped for dinner on the way to my accommodation at Hwadeogeuro Gan Godeungeo Bansang Jeju Iho Tewoo Branch in Iho Tewoo. I didn't want anything too heavy, so I settled on grilled fish. It's near Jeju Airport and on the way to where I was staying in the Iho Tewoo area, so the route worked well, and parking was easy too. Here's my honest review of a weekday evening visit.

Hours and location of Hwadeogeuro Gan Jeju Iho Tewoo Branch

The restaurant is at 106 Teuhaean-ro, Jeju-si, Jeju, and it's open Thursday to Tuesday from 10am to 9pm. Break time is 4pm to 5pm, and it's closed every Wednesday.

A restaurant near Jeju Airport that's open until 9pm

Jeju is a tourist island, but outside Jeju City and the busier areas, there aren't many places open in the evening. The fact that this restaurant is open until 9pm is honestly why I went. Lots of places near my accommodation don't serve dinner, so having dinner near Jeju Airport before heading on seemed like the better plan.

What's the inside like, and is there an ocean view?

This is the inside of the restaurant. I went in the evening, so there was no ocean view, but I think coming for lunch would let you enjoy grilled fish while looking at the sea. A shame, but the view will have to wait for next time.

Self-bar side dish refills and fried eggs

There's a self-bar area on one side of the restaurant. If you run low on side dishes, you can go and get more yourself.

And then the egg tray caught my eye! At this restaurant, the self-bar is set up so you can cook your own fried eggs. Since the fish is grilled in a wood-fired oven, it takes a little while to arrive after you order, and frying eggs while waiting made it feel a bit better.

Menu at Hwadeogeuro Gan

As a proper grilled fish restaurant, grilled fish is the main menu here. There's grilled mackerel, grilled Atka mackerel (imyeonsu), and grilled Spanish mackerel. There's also a handmade tteokgalbi (grilled short rib patty) set that kids can eat, so I think it would be a good stop for families traveling around Jeju with children.

Here comes the wood-fired Spanish mackerel set. As I mentioned earlier, it's cooked in a wood-fired oven, so it takes a little while after ordering, but the grilled Spanish mackerel looked properly crispy outside and moist inside. With lots of side dishes, seaweed soup and more, it's a full spread and just right for a filling meal.

Wood-fired spicy pork set

And this is the wood-fired spicy pork set my partner ordered. It's a mildly spicy stir-fried pork. My partner said it went perfectly eaten in a vegetable wrap. It also came as a full spread, so it's a solid set.

Honest review: dinner on the night I arrived in Jeju

If you've landed in Jeju in the evening and are looking for somewhere to eat near Jeju Airport, Hwadeogeuro Gan Godeungeo Bansang Jeju Iho Tewoo Branch seems like a comfortable, no-fuss option.
