Quiet Minrak-dong, Busan café with vanilla gelato latte: Café Buajang

In short

Café Buajang is a quiet dessert café in a house-like building tucked down an alley in Minrak-dong, Suyeong-gu, Busan. On a rainy Sunday around 5pm, the writer and a friend ordered an Americano, a vanilla gelato latte and banana tiramisu, while trumpet vine still blooming in August and the wood-toned interior set a calm mood. Café Buajang is a good place for unhurried conversation, and its banana tiramisu alone is worth a return visit.

If you're looking for a café near Gwangalli where you can talk quietly, Café Buajang in Minrak-dong is a pretty solid choice. I visited with a friend around 5pm on a Sunday, and even though it was raining, the house-like exterior mixed with the trumpet vine flowers was pretty, and the calm interior made it easy to relax and stay a while. Especially since the trumpet vine was blooming beautifully even in August, I was already in a good mood before even walking in. The drinks and desserts were satisfying too, and the owners were so kind that overall it was a pleasant visit.

A Minrak-dong alley café where trumpet vine still greets you in August

Café Buajang sits tucked inside an alley in Minrak-dong. It's a bit different from a typical shopfront café — more like a house — so it quietly catches your eye as you walk down the alley. Plants and flowers are naturally arranged near the entrance, and the trumpet vine was blooming beautifully even in August, which made for great photos.

It was raining on the day I visited, but the wet plants and exterior actually suited the space well, giving it a different mood than a clear day would.

Wood tones and plants inside — is it still quiet on a Sunday afternoon?

Stepping inside Café Buajang, you find a space built around beige and wood tones. Rather than feeling elaborately decorated, it has a natural mix of vintage props and plants, which made it comfortable to sit in for a long time.

Seating with varied table and chair styles

The seating isn't uniform either — the tables and chairs vary slightly, so the mood changes depending on where you sit. Even visiting around 5pm on a Sunday, it wasn't chaotically noisy, which made it easy to chat and unwind with a friend. If you're looking for a quiet Minrak-dong café, I felt this calm atmosphere was definitely a plus.

What we actually ordered — Americano, vanilla gelato latte, banana tiramisu

That day my friend and I ordered an Americano, a vanilla gelato latte, and banana tiramisu.

First, the Americano was nice to drink alongside the desserts — clean and easy to enjoy.

Sweet and smooth vanilla gelato latte

The vanilla gelato latte was sweet and smooth just as the name suggests, so if you prefer a sweeter drink over coffee's bitterness, this would suit you well.

Banana tiramisu topped with pistachio

And then the item I was most looking forward to that day — the banana tiramisu.

Soft cream and banana came together for a sweet, moist bite that I really liked. The pistachio on top added a nutty note so the sweetness didn't feel overwhelming. Personally, out of the three items, the banana tiramisu was the most memorable.

A Minrak-dong café worth returning to for dessert

When visiting a café, a pretty space matters, but what ultimately stays with you is the food and the atmosphere — and Buajang delivered on both. The banana tiramisu especially was something I'd want to order again on a future visit.

Not just the interior — the trumpet vine and plants near the entrance were pretty too, and it was fun to take my time looking around. Even on a rainy day the atmosphere was great, so I imagine the view outside would be even prettier on a sunny day. And the owners were genuinely kind. It felt comfortable staying and eating, and their friendly service made the café's atmosphere feel even warmer.

On the other hand, if you prefer a huge, flashy large-scale café or a bustling atmosphere, this might not be your taste. Personally, there wasn't anything I found particularly disappointing about this visit. Even visiting on a rainy Sunday at 5pm with a friend, it was a place I could spend comfortable time in and leave feeling good.

From the trumpet vine blooming prettily even in August, to the plant-filled interior, to the calm wood-toned mood — the space itself felt warm. Above all, the banana tiramisu was delicious and the owners were kind, making for a highly satisfying visit. Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5 out of 5.

Next time I'm in Minrak-dong, I think I'll go back just for the banana tiramisu. If you're looking for a café to quietly unwind in around Minrak-dong or Gwangalli, keep Café Buajang in mind.
