Korean soup lunch near Euljiro 3-ga Station: spicy udon gukbap, Paldal

I had a hearty meal near Euljiro 3-ga Station in Jung-gu, Seoul. I went to Paldal Neoguri Haejang Euljiro 3-ga Station branch (팔팔너구리해장 을지로3가역점), well known as a lunch favorite among Euljiro office workers!

Paldal Neoguri Haejang Euljiro 3-ga: location, parking and atmosphere

The restaurant is at 46-1 Chungmuro, Jung-gu, Seoul, on the 1st floor, close to Euljiro 3-ga Station, so it's easy to reach. It works for lunch, and also for a drink in the evening.

There's no private parking lot, so use the public roadside parking right in front of the restaurant.

Inside, it was packed with office workers, probably because it was lunchtime! The space isn't huge, but there are more seats than I expected, so it looked fine for eating alone or with coworkers. It's already a crowded Euljiro 3-ga lunch spot, and I think a bowl of gukbap with a glass of soju would be great here in the evening, haha.

Paldal Neoguri Haejang menu and what I ordered

The menu is quite varied, but this time I ordered the Naengkkeum Arong set (spicy Neoguri udon gukbap) and the bone-in rib soup (ppyeogalbi jinguk). The Naengkkeum Arong set comes with a half plate of cold shank suyuk (boiled beef) and one bowl of gukbap, haha.

The side dishes were kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi), kimchi and gochujang-pickled peppers, and every one of them was good! And here they are, freshly served: the bone-in rib soup, the Neoguri udon gukbap (spicy), and the half plate of shank suyuk!

What does the bone-in rib soup taste like? A mild galbitang with 3 ribs

Think of the bone-in rib soup as galbitang (short rib soup). It had three big rib bones in it, and the rice is served separately.

The meat came off the bone easily, so it was simple to eat, and the portion was really generous, haha. The broth isn't harsh; it's mild and rich, so it goes down easy. I cut the meat up and spooned it up with the broth and it just disappeared! A great choice when you want a filling meal of good galbitang!!

What I was most looking forward to in the set was the spicy Neoguri udon gukbap! Udon noodles inside gukbap..! I think it's such a fresh combination.

The rice is toryeom-style (rinsed with hot broth) and sits inside the soup, and there's plenty of finely cut meat too. Every spoonful brings up some meat, which made it even better, haha.

And with the udon in there, the texture of rice and noodles together on one spoon was great!! The tangy, rich broth with the udon noodles was the best.. Please try this. So good! I'd say go for the spicy version, no question.

Naengkkeum Arong suyuk: cold-served beef shank

The half plate of Naengkkeum Arong suyuk that came with the set was appealing too. It's arong shank served cold, naengsuyuk style, and eating it with tangy soy sauce and white kimchi really woke up my appetite! I think it would be perfect as a drinking snack in the evening, haha.

Is Paldal Neoguri Haejang a good gukbap lunch near Euljiro 3-ga Station?

If you're looking for a filling lunch near Euljiro 3-ga Station in Jung-gu, Seoul, I'd recommend Paldal Neoguri Haejang Euljiro 3-ga Station branch. It's easy to eat alone, good for an office lunch, and it looked fine for a drink in the evening too.

I especially recommend the spicy Neoguri udon gukbap, a unique and addictive dish. The rib soup with its generous meat and mild broth, and the Naengkkeum Arong suyuk, were all satisfying too. If you're after a good Euljiro 3-ga lunch spot, Paldal Neoguri Haejang is worth a visit : )
