Yongsan tteokbokki spot, sundae and liver in the broth: Hyeonseonine
In short
Hyeonseonine Yongsan Main Branch is a tteokbokki (spicy rice cake) and bunsik (Korean snack food) restaurant in a Yongridan-gil alley (Hangang-daero 39-gil) in Yongsan-gu, Seoul. Craving tteokbokki for lunch, the writer ordered the Hyeonseonine Combo Set (26,000 won) with tteokbokki, sundae (Korean blood sausage), mini gimbap (seaweed rice rolls), handmade fritters and fish cake, and liked dipping the sundae, liver, mini gimbap and fritters into the tteokbokki broth most. Today I want to introduce Hyeonseonine Yongsan Main Branch, where I had a really filling snack meal in Yongsan 😊 I was trying to figure out what to eat for lunch around Yongsan when a sudden craving for tteokbokki hit, and that's how I ended up here! Just tteokbokki alone felt a bit lacking, so I ordered the Hyeonseonine Combo Set, which lets you try a bit of everything haha.
Tteokbokki, sundae, mini gimbap, fritters, and fish cake soup all come out together in one big spread — and honestly, Korean snack food really does taste best when you spread out several dishes and eat them together lol. I came away completely full and satisfied haha. Shall we take a look at what this place is like?~ 😆

The exterior of Hyeonseonine in the Yongridan-gil alley

You can spot Hyeonseonine Yongsan Main Branch right away by its sign as you walk through the Yongridan-gil alley! haha. Instead of the flashy, trendy-style restaurants you see a lot these days, it has that friendly, long-established snack-bar vibe, which somehow made me crave tteokbokki even more haha.
It's a great location to casually stop by for a satisfying meal while wandering around cafés and restaurants in Yongsan, so a lot of people looking for Yongridan-gil restaurants seem to visit here too!
Inside Hyeonseonine Yongsan Main Branch and the self-service area
Inside Hyeonseonine Yongsan Main Branch there were more tables than I expected, plus a self-service area where you can grab small plates, danmuji (pickled radish), and aprons as needed. There was a real mix of people — some just having a quick plate of tteokbokki, others spreading out several snack dishes for a proper meal haha.
The self-service area made things really convenient~ It felt comfortable whether you're eating alone with something simple or sharing several dishes with friends — no wonder this is considered a Yongsan restaurant worth visiting haha 😊

The price and contents of the Hyeonseonine Combo Set
The Hyeonseonine Combo Set is ₩26,000 and comes with tteokbokki + sundae + mini gimbap + handmade fritters + fish cake. It's basically a combination that lets you try almost all of the snack bar's popular menu items at once 😆
Hyeonseonine has a wide range of snack menu items — the signature tteokbokki, along with instant tteokbokki, sundae, mini gimbap, assorted fritters, and handmade fish cake. Having a set that lets you try several menu items at once is perfect when you can't decide what to order haha.

After a short wait, the Hyeonseonine Combo Set arrived! Of course, the first thing I did was snap a photo of the whole spread. With red tteokbokki at the center, sundae, mini gimbap, crispy fritters, and steaming fish cake soup filled the table — the visuals alone were on point~! haha.
It's not just one dish but a whole spread to pick and choose from, so just looking at it felt reassuring! Honestly, seeing a spread like this makes you pause and wonder whether to dip the fritters in the tteokbokki first or go for the mini gimbap lol. So much anticipation for the flavors~! 😋
How does the tteokbokki at Hyeonseonine taste?
Hyeonseonine's tteokbokki has the red sauce properly soaked into the rice cakes, with plenty of broth — perfect for dipping fritters or mini gimbap into. Just looking at it made my mouth water haha.

I picked up a rice cake to try, and it was chewy with the sauce fully soaked in — totally delicious haha. The spiciness came with a subtle sweetness that kept me reaching for more! The rice cakes were great on their own, but dipping other dishes into the tteokbokki broth was really the ultimate move lol.

Sundae and liver, soaked in tteokbokki broth
The sundae (Korean blood sausage) in the Hyeonseonine combo set comes sliced into bite-sized pieces, with a chewy texture and a moist filling. It's an absolutely essential pairing with tteokbokki when eating Korean snack food haha.

It's mild and delicious on its own, but I still like dipping it lightly into the tteokbokki broth best 😋 Once the sweet-and-spicy sauce mixes in with the sundae, you get that mild flavor and the spiciness together — the kind of taste that makes you reach for one piece after another!
I love sundae and liver, so dipping them repeatedly into the tteokbokki broth made me happy the whole meal haha.

Bite-sized mini gimbap
Hyeonseonine's mini gimbap (seaweed rice roll) comes in perfect bite-sized pieces, great for eating alongside the other snack dishes. Even though it's small, the filling is packed generously inside so it's more filling than you'd expect haha.

I ate the mini gimbap plain for a while, but eventually dipped it into the tteokbokki broth too~ As the tteokbokki sauce soaked into the gimbap, the nutty sesame oil aroma and the spicy sauce came through together — a total winning combo lol. Tteokbokki broth truly deserves the title of all-purpose sauce~! 😂
Taking a break with warm fish cake soup
The fish cake soup served with the Hyeonseonine combo set played the role of soothing your mouth between bites of spicy tteokbokki. Eating the red tteokbokki and then sipping warm fish cake broth in between was such a great combination haha.
The fish cake itself was soft and chewy, going great with the broth. Especially after working through the tteokbokki and fritters, you start craving some broth, and having the fish cake soup right there made the set feel really well thought out haha.

The highlight: handmade assorted fritters
The assorted fritters in the Hyeonseonine combo set included familiar snack-bar favorites like gimmari (seaweed noodle rolls), mandu (dumplings), and sweet potato — several kinds, so it was fun picking through them one by one. Thanks to these, the set felt even more generous.

What's special is that the assorted fritters are made up of several types of handmade fritters, so they're extra crispy — the best! The outside was crunchy and each item had a different texture inside, so it was fun trying one after another haha.
And of course... fritters aren't complete without dipping them in tteokbokki broth lol. As the crispy fritters soaked up the moist tteokbokki sauce, the sweet-and-spicy flavor kept me reaching for more 😆 The squid fritter, eaten fresh, was warm with a crispy outside and a moist, savory squid flavor inside — absolutely delicious haha.
