Why Horangi Gotgan Gongdeok Branch for a weekend date near Gongdeok Station
Horangi Gotgan Gongdeok Branch (호랭이곳간 공덕점) is a Korean restaurant with a great reputation by word of mouth near Gongdeok Station. After a week of piled-up tiredness, I wanted to relax with good food, so on a weekend evening I went with my wife.

We were craving clean, neat Korean food, and I'd heard this is a place where you can really restore your energy too, so I arrived full of expectations. Out front, the exterior caught my eye, stylish yet warm.

The entrance was clearly well kept, and the cozy interior glowing through the big windows made me feel we'd picked an excellent spot for a weekend date.

What are the atmosphere and seating like at Horangi Gotgan Gongdeok?
The tables are spaced roomily and the lighting is soft, so it was nice for a quiet conversation for two. Inside, a savory broth aroma greeted us along with a pleasant buzz.
Even though it was busy with weekend guests, the restaurant was so fresh and tidy that nothing bothered us the whole meal. With roomy tables and soft lighting, it was just right for a cozy chat with my wife. When we sat down, the staff welcomed us with bright smiles.

What we ordered: beef shank suyuk and yukhoe bibimbap
We ordered the signature beef shank suyuk and the yukhoe bibimbap, said to be outstandingly fresh. Looking through the menu, I saw a variety of Korean dishes made with wholesome ingredients.

Right after we ordered, neat side dishes were set out quickly. Kimchi, kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi) and assorted sauces came out very cleanly, and each one tasted so good you could sense real skill behind it.

How tender is Horangi Gotgan's beef shank suyuk hot pot?
The beef shank suyuk arrives in a bubbling hot pot, with a texture that melts tenderly and nothing tough. Soon after, the star of the meal arrived.

Thin slices of beef shank were fanned out like a flower over a light broth, and the sight alone made me smile.
It was also packed with vegetables like garlic chives and mushrooms, so the nutritional balance looked perfect too.
I took a spoonful of the broth first, and a clean yet deep, rich flavor filled my mouth.
Then I picked up a slice of beef, dipped it lightly in the special sauce and ate it. It melted so softly I didn't even have to chew, and I couldn't help exclaiming.

Nothing was tough at all; the beef's natural savory flavor and soft texture came together perfectly, and my wife kept giving it a thumbs-up, saying it was delicious.

Horangi Gotgan's yukhoe bibimbap: taste and portion
The yukhoe bibimbap came in a large bowl heaped with raw beef, a generous serving. It arrived while we were still enjoying the suyuk.
Fresh raw beef was piled high in the middle, ringed by plenty of fresh vegetables, so it was obvious at a glance that they don't skimp on ingredients.

I added a moderate amount of gochujang sauce, mixed it up and took a big spoonful. The crunch of the vegetables and the chewiness of the raw beef made a fantastic combination. The raw beef's freshness came through, and the seasoning wasn't harsh yet still savory, so I never got tired of it and enjoyed it to the last bite.
Service and overall verdict on Horangi Gotgan Gongdeok

The cleanliness of the restaurant, the friendly staff, and above all food where you can taste the quality of the ingredients: everything was perfect.
