Andeok museum with a baby: giant statues and busts, Figure Museum Jeju
In short
Figure Museum Jeju is an indoor figure museum on Hanchang-ro in Andeok-myeon, Seogwipo, Jeju. On a rainy day the writer visited with her baby and walked through Marvel heroes and Disney characters, statues taller than a person and upper-body busts, then tried on Iron Man and Captain America props. Even for a visitor who does not know the Marvel films well, Figure Museum Jeju had plenty to see and works as a rainy-day indoor attraction in Jeju.

Figure Museum Jeju: an indoor attraction in Andeok, Seogwipo on a rainy day
Figure Museum Jeju is an indoor figure museum on Hanchang-ro in Andeok, Seogwipo. When the weather's good, traveling around Jeju usually means spending time outdoors at the beach or an oreum (volcanic cone), but Jeju weather isn't always cooperative, right? It was rainy and overcast on the day I visited, so I went looking for an indoor spot, and decided to check out Figure Museum Jeju in Andeok-myeon on this trip.

Especially if you're traveling with a baby, it's good to have at least one indoor Jeju attraction in mind for rainy or overly hot days.
Honestly, at first I thought this place was mainly for people who are really into figures, so I wondered, "I don't know much about this — will it even be fun?" But once I actually walked in, there was so much to see.
Which characters are on display at Figure Museum Jeju?
Figure Museum Jeju is a figure museum where you can see famous Korean and international characters all in one place, with a fairly wide-ranging exhibit spanning Marvel heroes, Disney characters, anime and movie characters, and various collectible figures.
The first thing you notice walking in is that the space is bigger than expected and the variety of figures is huge. I'd imagined small figures packed tightly into display cases, but in reality the sizes ranged from tiny figures all the way up to large ones far taller than a person.
Personally, the large figures were the most fun part. While small figures are fun for admiring their fine detail, the big ones felt like the actual characters were standing right in front of you, which also made them great for photos. Characters around human size or bigger were honestly much more overwhelming to stand in front of than I expected.
What is an action figure?
An action figure refers to a toy doll capable of various poses (though some toy dolls have no joints), and action figures range in size from 3 inches to 18 inches.

They're usually made from materials like plastic, based on characters from movies, animation, comic books, and video games.

Generally, a sculptural piece representing a subject (in the narrow sense, a sculptural toy) is called a "figure," and adding "action" — meaning mobility or movement — makes an "action figure," essentially a "moving doll."
Unlike ordinary toy dolls, action figures have engineered joints that allow them to depict movement, and since they're made from a range of materials, how precisely the character is rendered apparently determines a product's popularity.

How is a statue different?
A statue is a type of collectible made as a full-body sculpture. Like busts, most are limited-production items with their own unique serial number, and each company typically takes pre-orders.

These, too, boast fine detail and coloring and are high-priced collectibles alongside busts. Statues originally started in the early 1980s as small-run pieces modeled after legendary actors or singers, but in recent years, Star Wars and superhero products have been produced, drawing passionate reactions from collectors. Premium-format statues in particular are apparently shaped in resin molds, painted, then dressed in fabric clothing to heighten realism.

Trying on Iron Man and Captain America props
There were also hands-on props you could actually try, like Iron Man and Captain America gear,

Putting on the mask and holding the shield made the experience really satisfying — not cheesy at all, just genuinely fun.
My baby doesn't know the heroes yet, but I feel like it'll be even more fun once she does and comes back. Even for me, someone who hasn't seen many Marvel movies, this place gave me an amazingly wondrous experience.
The bust (upper-body sculpture) exhibit
A bust is a type of figure made as an upper-body sculpture, a high-quality bust reminiscent of a sculptor's work.

Most busts are limited-production items with their own unique serial number, and this type of toy collectible is apparently produced on a pre-order basis by each company. True to the name, they show off sculpture-like detail and coloring, having become synonymous with high-priced collectibles.

Visiting with a baby: the Frozen and Kung Fu Panda zones
There were also plenty of familiar Disney-style animated figures babies would like, such as Frozen, Kung Fu Panda, and Dragon Ball.

Is Figure Museum Jeju worth a visit?
Since it was raining, I went all the way to Seogwipo looking for an indoor activity, and I was so happy to find figures that were much higher quality than I expected at this museum.
My husband, who loves movies and comics, loved it too, and I got to go back to my childhood and enjoy myself, so it was such a satisfying day! Once my baby is older, I definitely want to come back again!
