Hapjeong whisky bar for solo drinks and Maker's Mark highball: Rosetta
In short
Rosetta is a painting-themed cocktail and whisky bar in Seogyo-dong, near Exit 3 of Hapjeong Station in Mapo, Seoul. Arriving alone right at the 6pm opening, this visit took the bar table and worked through four drinks with no food — The Gleaners, Madame X, The Dream (꿈) and a Maker's Mark highball — while the bartender explained each cocktail. Rosetta feels just as natural for solo drinking as it does for a date.

I was looking for somewhere near Hapjeong to have a light drink alone, and that's how I ended up at Rosetta. When I'm drinking solo, I usually prefer a place that isn't too loud or overwhelming, somewhere I can sit and sip slowly — and with its bar table, this place looked perfect for a solo visit.
Where is Rosetta? Location and exterior near Hapjeong Station

Rosetta is a cocktail and whisky bar on Eoulmadang-ro 5-gil in Seogyo-dong, 393m from Exit 3 of Hapjeong Station. It opens at 6pm, and I arrived just a bit after that — a perfect time for a solo drink. The exterior is really elegant and upscale, isn't it?

Sitting alone at Rosetta's bar table: the atmosphere inside
The order I drank in that day was The Gleaners → Madame X → Hojakdo → Maker's Mark highball. Since I walked in just after 6pm, I think I was probably the first customer. The place is quite spacious with a variety of seating.

The vibe is quite different from a classic cocktail bar. There are paintings on the walls, and the whole place feels steeped in 19th-century European style.
I visited alone today and took a seat at the bar table. Thanks to that choice, I ended up learning a lot about the cocktails from the bartender.

First they bring out water and a basic snack. I'd already eaten plenty of meat beforehand, so I skipped the food. Rosetta is a bit different from your typical cocktail bar in that its signature cocktails are inspired by famous paintings, so even the menu names were fun to read. Today I ordered one by one, focusing on the signature cocktails I'd been curious about.
The Gleaners: the dessert cocktail that satisfied most

The first order was The Gleaners. Just the name brought a famous painting to mind, and out of everything I drank that day, this cocktail was personally my favorite. Being a dessert cocktail, it's very sweet and smooth, and it was lovely to sip slowly and savor.

What made it interesting was that it didn't feel like just a pretty name slapped on a drink — it genuinely felt like a piece of art expressed through a cocktail.
Madame X: the cocktail you spray with edible perfume as you drink
Second was Madame X. This is also one of Rosetta's signature cocktails, and it had a completely different mood from The Gleaners I'd just had. It's described as a cocktail with the sweet flavor of port wine, layered with rose and hibiscus notes.

Spraying edible perfume on it yourself as you drink is a fun little touch too. It looks very clean on the outside, but the flavor was complex and mysterious.

The Dream (꿈): a Picasso-inspired cocktail with mala spice
Third was Hojakdo (호작도)! I deliberated a lot before ordering this one, but each cocktail had such a distinct mood and personality that it was fun to compare them as I drank. I imagine the order you drink them in changes the impression each one leaves, so next time I'd like to try a different sequence.

Hojakdo is a cocktail based on a work by Picasso. With Sichuan pepper spice mixed in, I imagine it's a love-it-or-hate-it kind of drink.
For me, the spicy aroma wasn't bad at all. I'd recommend it to anyone looking to try something new.
Finishing with a Maker's Mark highball

Last up was the Maker's Mark highball. After drinking a string of signature cocktails, it was a nice, clean way to close things out.

You can practically feel the crispness just by looking at it, right?

I went through four drinks in a row today with no food, but I didn't get anywhere near as tipsy as I expected. I drank a lot of water in between, but I think the bartenders' fun stories about the cocktails also worked as a kind of snack in themselves. Had a really great time.
Final verdict: Rosetta for solo drinks, dates and group nights
Trying all four signature cocktails in a row, each had its own distinct charm, which I really enjoyed. Next time I'd like to work through the rest of the signature cocktails I haven't tried yet, one by one.
If you're near Hapjeong or Hongdae and want to try something a bit different in cocktail form, Rosetta is a must-visit. It's great for a date, but I'd also recommend going solo like I did and taking your time with one drink after another.
