Gangseo Japanese diner weekday lunch: aged salmon bowl set, Hekbap
In short

I went to Hekbap, a Japanese home-style diner! Even though it's Japanese home cooking, it fits Korean tastebuds so well — a fusion of Korean and Japanese flavors, with delicious tonkatsu, rice bowls and ramen. A real find near Kkachisan Station :) Great value too, so you can eat well and cheaply here!!

It's a signature Japanese home-style rice bowl and ramen restaurant near Kkachisan Station, specializing in rice bowls, ramen, soba, udon, curry and cutlets! Because it focuses on these dishes, everything is high quality, and you can properly enjoy a delicious meal made with good ingredients.

The name Hekbap means "core + bap (meal)" — the idea of putting all their heart into one bowl to give you the tastiest meal possible. It's a name that shows real sincerity about the food, which makes me trust the place even more :)

Window seats for eating alone and the room itself
The interior! Hekbap Kkachisan Branch is spacious with a lot of seating. There are window-facing seats great for solo dining, plus big 4-person tables good for groups.
I visited during lunch hour, so there was a steady flow of customers. There's more seating further inside, so even if there's a wait, tables seem to turn over quickly.
Baby chairs are available too, so it's also a great Kkachisan Station spot for families with babies!!

Since I came alone, I sat at a window seat :) A bright, sunlit window seat! In front of me were napkins, wet wipes, utensils, and seasonings like wasabi and chili flakes.

What's on the kiosk menu at Hekbap
At Hekbap Kkachisan Branch, you order conveniently through the kiosk set up at every table.

The rice bowl options — beef intestine, galbi, chicken, buta-don, pork jowl and more, a really wide variety, plus fresh seafood bowls like salmon and marinated shrimp. Ordering the set version adds karaage and udon to some menus.
Lots of ramen and tonkatsu options too! Plenty of udon dishes as well. There's also a cold soba menu that's great for summer, so I was torn, but in the end what I picked was...

Salmon rice bowl set plus shrimp tempura, on the table in 10 minutes
I added shrimp tempura as a side to my salmon rice bowl set. Even though it was a busy lunch hour, the food came out about 10 minutes after ordering. It doesn't seem to take long for dishes to come out, so Hekbap near Kkachisan Station is also great for office workers' lunch breaks!

The salmon rice bowl set comes as a full, neatly arranged spread with the salmon bowl, udon, karaage, and side dishes of kkakdugi (diced radish kimchi), danmuji (pickled radish) and cheese rice cake!!

The shrimp tempura came out quickly too :) Crispy outside, juicy inside!! A dish that's always delicious no matter when you eat it.

The plating was clean and neat, so it looked good and was easy to eat too. The salmon bowl came loaded with egg yolk, pickled onion and flying fish roe — delicious eaten together with the salmon!

The udon noodles were so springy they didn't feel like frozen noodles at all. The noodles themselves were chewy and bouncy — really delicious udon.

And the karaage came with mayo sauce drizzled on top along with salad, so the presentation was nice too.

The side dishes were exactly right, nothing you'd want to skip. Kkakdugi, danmuji, and cheese rice cake!!

How clean was the restaurant?
The utensils came in a disposable sleeve, which felt hygienic and nice. This place clearly cares a lot about cleanliness, which makes me want to recommend this Kkachisan Station spot even more :)

Even the wasabi wasn't served as a scoop-it-yourself lump — they used individually portioned packets for hygiene. Feeling that attention to detail makes me trust the place even more!!
How fresh was the salmon, and how to eat the bowl
The salmon's color was amazing! Well-aged salmon with a glossy sheen, rich with fat — soft and delicious. I put some wasabi on it and

scooped it up with the rice. The well-aged, soft texture combined with the lightly seasoned rice made for just the right balance — I ate it happily. Time to break the yolk!!

Mixing the yolk well into the salmon and rice makes it even richer and nuttier. Put the salmon on top of the yolk-soaked rice, add wasabi and onion, and it's the best!!

And adding the popping flying fish roe on top made the texture even more fun and tasty.

The udon broth wasn't salty at all — just the right taste!!

The noodles were really springy and delicious, and

the salmon bowl paired so well with it. The salmon was piled generously, so there was plenty of it left even as I worked through the rice — a satisfying, hearty portion. The salmon's color was just so good!!! Good enough quality that it felt like being on a trip to Japan — a real find near Kkachisan Station.

And the karaage is tasty on its own, but

it also went really well piled on top of the rice like this. Kind of like a chicken mayo bowl, haha
The shrimp tempura came out fried perfectly crispy outside, juicy inside. Dipped in the sauce they gave, the combo of the tender juicy shrimp and crunchy batter was the best.
And finishing with the cheese rice cake!! Eating it almost like a dessert, the whole set was such a great combination — this Kkachisan Station favorite that I've already saved on Naver Maps to visit again. A Japanese restaurant I'd recommend :)
