I always finish my barbecue grocery shopping for Gapyeong pension trips at Ari Chuksan, the butcher shop near Cheongpyeong Terminal. Instead of hauling heavy food bags from home, I always stop by Ari Chuksan first and then head to the pension :) You can shop for vegetables, sauces, and all kinds of meat in one place, and the prices are so reasonable it's hard to pass up. Since so many people come to Cheongpyeong and Gapyeong for a trip, barbecue is basically a must !!! There's great pork (Hi-Pork breed) perfect for grilling, plus donmahok (pork rib rack) for a fun splurge, and camping combo sets — honestly it's hard to pick just one, there's so much good meat lined up.
Pork belly, donmahok, bkkomsal (navel meat), hangjeongsal (pork jowl), pork neck — all the pork cuts you'd want are right there haha. Personally, try the special-cut BBQ set or ggodeul-mokssal (neck meat) — pork like this is so fatty, nutty, and delicious.👍
And of course beef can't be left out! Since they handle their own auction and butchering for Korean beef (hanwoo), the prices end up even more reasonable~~~
It's a Gapyeong butcher shop that carries all kinds of cuts you can't easily find elsewhere — udae-galbi (premium short rib), lamb ribs, lamb skewers, chilled meat, and marinated meats. The marinated options range from gochujang pork to soy-marinated bulgogi to pork king roast, and they say it's all homemade — now you get why this place is so popular haha.

I don't even need to shop anywhere else — inside Ari Chuksan you can also buy barbecue vegetables, other food, and various sauces, all in one place. And the prices are mart-level (some things are even cheaper than the mart), so it's really convenient to finish all your shopping in one stop before a trip.
It'd be a shame to only eat barbecue meat~ 😅 They also sell retort soups and simple side-dish options for a second round, so personally this place is such a satisfying spot. lol
Skipping charcoal in summer: striploin and whole short rib strips for 30,000 won
Since it was such a hot summer day, I skipped the charcoal and bought mostly beef! Striploin plus boneless short rib strips for ₩30,000 total — pure happiness👍 Every time I go, they throw in a little something different, and this time they gave me free stew meat and enoki mushrooms♥️
Meat eaten on a Gapyeong trip is obviously going to taste amazing haha. But this time the cuts I picked were especially spot-on !! The short rib strips had just the right chew and enough fat that a cold beer went down way too easily~
Even the tender striploin tasted even better eaten outdoors in the fresh air — Ari Chuksan's meat really shone.
