Caravan charcoal BBQ with baekpo galbi and kids' beef: Ari Chuksan
In short
Ari Chuksan is a butcher shop in Cheongpyeong, Gapyeong, popular with people buying meat for caravan and pension barbecues. This visit picked up pork belly cut over 2cm thick, beef for a toddler, and two packs of baekpo galbi (a rib cut) seen for the first time, all grilled over caravan charcoal. The baekpo galbi turned out even better than the pork belly, so it's the first thing to grab here next time.

The weather's been so nice lately that we took a caravan trip to Gapyeong over the weekend. We planned to grill meat at the caravan, so we decided to buy it before check-in. When you visit Gapyeong or Cheongpyeong, barbecue is a must, haha. While looking for where to buy meat, I stopped by Ari Chuksan, a butcher shop well known in Cheongpyeong.

Apparently a lot of people like us, shopping for caravan or pension barbecue, come here too.

Meat picked out in store
Walking in, they had a wide variety of meat cuts ready.

I could see staff in the back doing the butchering themselves.

The variety was bigger than I expected — even the pork belly came in different thicknesses and sizes. From thin slices to thick cuts, you could pick the thickness to match your eating style or where you'd be grilling.

Since we'd be grilling over charcoal at the caravan, I wanted thick pork belly rather than thin, so I picked one over 2cm. Just looking at the thickness, I could already tell it'd be delicious if grilled right.

I also grabbed some beef for Mango to eat. Traveling with a kid now means packing not just what we'll eat but what Mango will eat too, and the beef looked good, so I picked that up as well.

Baekpo galbi, seen for the first time
Honestly, what I was most curious about that day was the baekpo galbi (a rib cut). My husband could tell just by looking that it'd be good. I'd never heard of this cut before, so I was curious how it would taste, and it looked so good I ended up grabbing two packs.

Wrap veggies and mushrooms in one stop
It's a shame if there are no side veggies when eating meat. Ari Chuksan sells not just green onion shreds and onions but also king oyster mushrooms, button mushrooms, enoki mushrooms, peppers, lettuce, and perilla leaves — all good to eat alongside the meat, which was really convenient. We didn't need to stop at a separate mart; we just grabbed everything we needed here.

Besides what I picked, they had cuts like kkodeulsal, baekkopsal, dokkaebisal, and even tomahawk and lamb ribs. Good options if you want something a bit different to grill while camping.
They also had smoked duck, pork cutlets, chicken drumsticks, and meal kits like millefeuille nabe or Korean pork bulgogi — I came for meat and ended up browsing everything else too, haha.
For people like us shopping before a trip, it's convenient to grab everything needed here in one go.
Grilling over charcoal at the caravan
With the meat packed, we finally arrived at the caravan! After unpacking and playing at the pool, we pulled out the meat as soon as evening came. Barbecue on a trip is always the most exciting part.

Started with Mango's beef~ The quality was so good, and Mango seemed to enjoy it too. That took care of dinner for Mango!

Then I grilled the baekpo galbi I'd been looking forward to, and wow... it was way more delicious than expected.

I think I liked the baekpo galbi even more than the pork belly. It was so good I kind of wished I'd just bought all baekpo galbi, haha.

We put the thick pork belly on the grill too, and just the sizzling sound was great~ Since it was thick, it cooked slowly, coming out golden on the outside and juicy inside — truly delicious.

We went to Gapyeong to grill meat at the caravan, and picking out such good meat made this trip's dinner really satisfying. Next time we head to Gapyeong or Cheongpyeong, I think I'll go straight for Ari Chuksan's baekpo galbi first, haha. If you're camping or caravanning in Gapyeong and looking for a place to buy barbecue meat, I recommend Ari Chuksan!
