Korean BBQ in Gasan, weekend parking & corkage: Choi Woo-young Gogiya

In short

Choi Woo-young Gogiya (최우영고기야) is a Korean BBQ restaurant serving charcoal pre-grilled meat on basement level 1 of Daeryung Post Tower 6 in Gasan, Seoul, connected to Exit 5 of Gasan Digital Complex Station. The writer's family visited on a Saturday before break time and ate galbisal (beef rib finger meat), marinated galbisal, pork belly, Eonyang-style beef bulgogi, cold buckwheat noodles and nurungji (scorched rice) for dessert; doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) came included, portions were generous, and weekend parking ran 5 hours with corkage for 2 bottles. Choi Woo-young Gogiya is a good pick for group dinners and work get-togethers on portions and price, though the seasoning leans a little sweet overall.

Today I stuffed myself at Choi Woo-young Gogiya (최우영고기야), a great-value Korean BBQ place in Gasan. It has parking and great value, so I'd recommend it as a Gasan meeting spot. It's in the basement of Daeryung Post Tower 6, connected to Line 7 Gasan Digital Complex Station. Here's my review~

Is Choi Woo-young Gogiya the same chain as Choi Woo-young Susan?

Yes, Choi Woo-young Gogiya is in the same chain as Choi Woo-young Susan and Choi Woo-young Sushiya. I once visited the famous Choi Woo-young Susan near Yeongdeungpo-gu Office, a self-service raw fish restaurant known for great value. When I saw the logo at Choi Woo-young Gogiya today, it reminded me of that place. Sure enough, Choi Woo-young Susan, Sushiya and Gogiya are all the same chain.

Corkage and break-time ordering tips at Choi Woo-young Gogiya

Corkage and alcohol price notice at Choi Woo-young Gogiya

Corkage-free is one of the charms of the Choi Woo-young chain, and here up to 2 bottles are allowed, so take note if you're planning a group gathering!! Soju, beer and sake are ₩4,000, so even after the 2 bottles it's cheap, which I love.

I went on a Saturday before break time, and since the busy hours were over, we could eat quietly, which was nice. But because the meat comes out grilled and takes time, you need to order at least 15 minutes before break time starts!!

You can tell how well a restaurant is managed from its self-service corner, and the vegetables at Choi Woo-young Gogiya were really fresh, which I liked.

What we ordered and the basic table setting at Choi Woo-young Gogiya

I wanted to try a bit of everything, so we ordered galbisal (beef short rib meat), marinated galbisal, Eonyang-style bulgogi, pork belly and marinated pork belly.

Meat menu at Choi Woo-young Gogiya

The basic table setting at Choi Woo-young Gogiya includes doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew). As someone who always wants a bowl of rice with BBQ, I was happy the stew came included.

My husband tried the complimentary side dishes, seasoned raw crab and seasoned skate, and said, "Not bad?" The green onion salad is all about the seasoning, and I thought, "They do their seasoning well here~"

Bibimbap made with seasoned radish from the self-service corner

Before the meat arrived, I made bibimbap with the seasoned radish from the self-service corner. I only made one bowl, but my husband said he'd mix it for me, took it, and ate the whole thing^^;;

Galbisal and marinated galbisal: ₩14,000 per 150 g serving

Galbisal cooking on the grill

At Choi Woo-young Gogiya they grill the meat over charcoal, but it felt less like fully cooked and more like lightly pre-grilled.

Pork belly: ₩10,000 per 200 g serving

Two servings of pre-grilled pork belly

This is 2 servings of pre-grilled pork belly from Choi Woo-young Gogiya. It's almost twice the amount of the 2 servings of galbisal. If 2 servings of pork belly is this much, it's definitely a great-value BBQ place!!

Eonyang-style beef bulgogi: ₩12,000 per 200 g serving

While eating the pork belly, break time was running out, so we hurriedly added Eonyang-style bulgogi. The sweet bulgogi tasted like something kids would love.

Doenjang jjigae (included), cold buckwheat noodles ₩7,000, nurungji dessert ₩3,000

Complimentary doenjang jjigae in an earthenware pot
Nurungji dessert in a large earthenware pot

The doenjang jjigae that came first was full of ingredients and tasty, but it wasn't bubbling hot, so I asked them to reheat it during the meal, and it was reborn as a boiling stew. The included jjigae came in an earthenware pot the same size as the one for the nurungji (scorched rice soup) dessert. The stew is free and the nurungji is ₩3,000, so why is the pot so big haha. I wondered if they still make money giving this much haha

Huge portion of cold buckwheat noodles at Choi Woo-young Gogiya

I ordered the cold buckwheat noodles for my eldest daughter, who loves buckwheat noodles, and the portion was enormous. I thought, "How can anyone finish this alone?" The nurungji was a big portion too, so the whole family shared it as a clean finish to the meal.

Any downsides to Choi Woo-young Gogiya in Gasan?

I liked that Choi Woo-young Gogiya in Gasan has generous portions and low prices. The seasoning on the food was tasty too, but as I ate, I found it a little sweet overall, which was a small letdown.
