Gwangmyeong family BBQ with pork kimchi jjigae: Sammokjip
In short
Sammokjip Gwangmyeong Sageori Station Branch is a samgyeopsal (pork belly) and pork neck grill restaurant in the Gwangmyeong Sageori food alley in Gyeonggi. A family of four with two kids ordered two servings of whole-scallion galmaegisal (pork skirt meat) and two servings of teukmoksal (thick-cut pork neck), all grilled at the table by staff, plus pork kimchi jjigae and steamed egg for 4,000 won. For a meal spent chasing after children, having the staff grill every cut was the single best part of Sammokjip.

As the kids get older their appetites keep growing, so these days we're basically a meat expedition team roaming Gwangmyeong every weekend. Today we went to Sammokjip, a samgyeopsal (pork belly) spot on Gwangmyeong Sageori. Here's a review of the thick, juicy teukmoksal (premium pork neck) and the distinctive whole-scallion galmaegisal (pork skirt meat) we had there~

Inside Sammokjip: seating, atmosphere and reservations

Sammokjip Gwangmyeong Sageori Station Branch sits in the Gwangmyeong Sageori dining alley, packed with all kinds of good restaurants.

We booked ahead through Naver, and when we arrived a table was already set for four. Reserving ahead makes you feel like you're being taken care of — I really like that about it~

I looked up because the chimney flue was so decorated, and it turned out review event and promo notices were taped to it. A funny little touch, though the review event notice actually said "Sammokjip Cheolsan Main Branch" haha^^;;
What we ordered and the soy sauce table setup

The moment I saw the menu, the red-highlighted best-menu items caught my eye, so we ordered mostly from those.
Once we sat down, the staff poured soy sauce into little dishes already set on the table. Being poured a dipping sauce like that felt almost like being poured wine at a fine restaurant, haha. It gave the whole meal a sense of being properly hosted.
Whole-scallion galmaegisal (pork skirt meat), 2 servings

True to Sammokjip's signature grilling service, they started us off with the whole-scallion galmaegisal. Seeing the scallions tucked into the skirt meat, I was curious what it would taste like.
The staff kept coming back constantly to flip it, cut it, and roll it around, so all we had to do was sit and wait to eat — so convenient. 🤗 That's the whole charm of grilling service!! On family outings where you're too busy wrangling the kids to focus on the grill, this kind of service is such a relief~

The chewy skirt meat paired with the sweetness of the softly grilled scallions won over even the kids' taste buds — they kept asking for more grilled scallions.
Teukmoksal (thick-cut pork neck), 2 servings
Can't let the meat run out~ Right as we were finishing the whole-scallion galmaegisal, the staff came by to start grilling the teukmoksal.

Looking at how thick the cut was, it's clear why it's called teukmoksal (premium pork neck) and not just regular moksal.
While we were eating the galmaegisal, the staff would occasionally appear quietly to flip, cut, and roll the meat again. After eating this comfortably, I think I'll only be going to grill restaurants with table service from now on.

Why does thickly sliced teukmoksal look so pretty cooking on the grill? Crisp on the outside, moist inside, juices practically visible — it was hard to resist. My mouth was watering, so while waiting I helped myself to a refill of the grilled kimchi on the side.
Pork kimchi jjigae at Sammokjip
Whenever we get meat I usually order doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew), but the staff recommended the kimchi jjigae, so we went with pork kimchi jjigae. It came in a stone pot bigger than the steamed egg, packed with pork. The stew had a sharp spicy kick, and it turned out to be from a chili pepper hidden inside — that was the twist.

My husband and I each finished a full bowl of rice with just the kimchi jjigae.
Steamed egg for 4,000 won

The steamed egg at Sammokjip Gwangmyeong Sageori Station Branch is a reasonable ₩4,000. When it arrived I caught a nutty smell — turned out they'd drizzled sesame oil on top. ❤️ We even got a bonus scallion heart on top^^
