Eurwangni Beach octopus hotpot with your dog: Eurwangni Jjanggune
In short
Eurwangni Jjanggune (을왕리짱구네) is a live octopus hotpot restaurant near Eurwangni Beach in Jung-gu, Incheon, where dogs can come inside in a bag or dog stroller. The writer, a friend and their dog Mochi shared 2 servings of the red hotpot at spicy level, finished with fried rice, then walked along Eurwangni Beach. Plump octopus, rich broth and excellent water kimchi make Eurwangni Jjanggune a lunch stop worth recommending on a Yeongjong Island drive.

Last weekend my friend, Mochi and I took a drive out to Yeongjong Island. We originally just wanted to see Eurwangni Beach, but while hunting for lunch we ended up at Eurwangni Jjanggune (을왕리짱구네), a famous octopus place in the area 🔥 It's right near the beach, so you can walk after eating, which makes it a great weekend outing, and I was happy that dogs are allowed, so Mochi could come too.

Is Eurwangni Jjanggune dog-friendly?
Yes, Eurwangni Jjanggune allows dogs, but they must be in a bag or a dog stroller. There's a notice about dogs posted at the entrance.
Being dog-friendly was the biggest reason we came with Mochi 🤍 We brought her in a carrier, and the owner took one look at Mochi and fussed over how cute she was, which made me happy haha. Even at "dog-friendly" restaurants some places make you feel awkward, but there was none of that here, so we could eat comfortably. Recommended if you're looking for somewhere to eat with your dog near Eurwangni Beach!

Menu and ordering at Eurwangni Jjanggune
Eurwangni Jjanggune specializes in live octopus hotpot (sannakji jeongol) and sells two versions: the red one and the white one. We didn't even hesitate and ordered the signature red one, 2 servings, spicy!
The restaurant is spacious and clean, with lots of families, and it felt like plenty of locals come here too.

The hotpot really starts once the broth boils
Once the broth starts boiling, the owner comes over and puts the live octopus in for you. When it first arrived, it was piled with chives and mushrooms and I couldn't see any octopus. Where is it? I wondered, but that's when the real show begins haha. The moment the octopus goes on top of the red broth, the look of it is insane.
With plump octopus, chives and mushrooms bubbling away, I was busy taking photos. The octopus was much plumper than I expected and the portion was generous. I immediately understood why so many people recommend this as an Eurwangni octopus place!!

How were the octopus texture and the spicy broth?
The octopus wasn't tough at all; it was chewy in the best way. I picked up a cooked piece and the spicy seasoning had soaked in nicely, and the savory flavor built the more I chewed.
I ordered it spicy, but it wasn't just hot. The broth itself was rich, so we kept spooning it up. I have no idea how many times my friend and I said the broth was good haha. The bouncy texture unique to live octopus was still there, and it was good with chives, good with mushrooms, honestly just good with everything.

The water kimchi is the real kicker among the side dishes
The basic side dishes were decent, but personally the water kimchi (mul-kimchi, kimchi in a chilled broth) was what stuck with me. After spicy octopus hotpot, one bite of it resets your whole mouth. We both kept eating it, saying how good it was haha. You know a place with great side dishes is the real deal, right?

The complimentary clam soup is refreshing too
The clam soup that comes by default was better than I expected. It had plenty of clams and the broth was clean and refreshing, perfect while waiting for the hotpot. It paired surprisingly well with the spicy octopus hotpot, and it was great for cleansing the palate in between.

Kalguksu or fried rice to finish?
To finish the meal you can choose kalguksu (knife-cut noodles) or fried rice, and we picked fried rice without a second thought! I would have regretted skipping it haha.
They stir-fry rice, seaweed flakes and chives in the leftover sauce, and it's spicy yet nutty, so even though we were full we kept eating. The two of us scraped the pan clean 🤍 Personally I recommend the fried rice over the kalguksu!

A walk on Eurwangni Beach after the meal
After eating at Eurwangni Jjanggune we headed straight to Eurwangni Beach, and since it's so close, the course was really good. Full of hotpot, walking Mochi in the sea breeze, it felt like a proper weekend outing.
If you're planning a Yeongjong drive, I recommend this course!
- Have lunch at Eurwangni Jjanggune
- Walk along Eurwangni Beach

Final thoughts
Eurwangni Jjanggune is the Eurwangni octopus place my friend, Mochi and I visited. Dogs are allowed, the owner was kind, and the spicy live octopus hotpot with refreshing water kimchi left us satisfied. I especially liked that you can eat together with your dog as long as you bring a bag or stroller, and being able to walk Eurwangni Beach afterward makes it a perfect Yeongjong outing.
If you're looking for a dog-friendly restaurant or an Eurwangni octopus place, it's worth a visit. I'll probably come back next time I go to Eurwangni Beach 🤍
