In short

Oshi Black Seongsu is an okonomiyaki and yakisoba restaurant on basement level 1 of 22-18 Seoulsup 4-gil in Seongsu, Seongdong, Seoul, near Seoul Forest. At Oshi Black Seongsu, the writer ordered tomato okonomiyaki with a mozzarella cheese topping from the review event, plus ebi cream croquettes (shrimp cream croquettes) and a yakisoba pork belly roll, and every seat had its own iron griddle that kept the food warm to the end. The verdict: a meal at Oshi Black Seongsu good enough to finish to the last bite.

Today I'm introducing Oshi Black (오시블랙), an okonomiyaki (savory Japanese pancake) spot in Seoul Forest and Seongsu.

Seongsu often has pop-up stores, plus plenty of select shops, cafés and things to see, so I drop by fairly often. That day I was wandering around Seoul Forest when I suddenly craved something warm and Japanese, and that's how I ended up at Oshi Black.

I heard they do okonomiyaki and yakisoba (fried noodles) well, so I went with high hopes. Was it a satisfying meal? Here's my honest review. 😊

Oshi Black Seongsu: Location, Hours and Parking

Oshi Black Seongsu is at 22-18 Seoulsup 4-gil, Seongdong-gu, in the basement level. It's open daily 11:00 - 22:00. There's no parking, so I'd recommend a nearby public parking lot.

Entrance of Oshi Black Seongsu on the basement level

The restaurant is on the basement level.

The inside is on the small side, but with bar seats, 2-person tables and 4-person tables, it can hold more guests than you'd expect.

The mood is easy for solo meals, dates or a group of friends, and the place was kept tidy, so I could eat comfortably. 😊

A Personal Iron Griddle at Every Seat: Table Setting at Oshi Black Seongsu

Every seat at Oshi Black Seongsu has its own iron griddle. The table was neatly set in advance, and pickles were provided by default.

I also liked that the personal griddle lets you enjoy the okonomiyaki warm until the very end.

The food doesn't cool down quickly even as time passes, so I think you can enjoy it to the last bite. 😊

Oshi Black Seongsu Menu and Review Event

Looking through the menu, there was a far bigger variety than I expected.

Besides okonomiyaki and yakisoba, there are set menus too, so it's great for sharing several things.

The drinks were quite varied as well, from draft beer to highballs, all pairing nicely with Japanese food, so it seemed like a perfect place for an evening drink. 😊

A review event card was placed on top of the tableware and small plates.

Joining the event gets you a tomato appetizer salad and an added topping, and we were told we could take part in both, so we signed up right away. 😊

It's a simple review event, yet the perks are good, so if you visit I really recommend joining!

Tomato Appetizer Salad

Soon after, the tomato appetizer came out first.

It had a sweet-and-sour flavor, perfect for whetting the appetite before the main meal. 😊

I'd assumed a review-event item would be nothing special, but the quality was better than expected and I really enjoyed it.

Ebi Cream Croquette

The ebi cream croquette (shrimp cream croquette) I ordered as a side arrived too.

One bite and the filling was so creamy, so delicious! 😊

The sauce that came with it seemed to be a wasabi mayo sauce, nutty with a faint kick, and it went really well with the croquette.

It was a side I was personally very happy with, so I'd recommend ordering it if you visit!

Yakisoba Pork Belly Roll and Tomato Okonomiyaki

Next came the yakisoba pork belly roll.

It looked so tempting I wanted to dig in right away, but I wanted a nice photo of everything together, so I held out until the okonomiyaki arrived. 😂

Food photos really are only satisfying when you take them all at once. Haha.

And the tomato okonomiyaki I'd been waiting for came out soon after!! 🤤

Once all the dishes were out, the table was full and looked really generous.

At times like this, one photo of the whole spread before eating is a must! 📸

It looked so good that I took a ton of photos before properly starting the meal. 😊

Tomato Okonomiyaki with Mozzarella Topping: How Does It Taste?

I put some on my small plate and finally dug in!

Maybe because I usually like tomatoes, this tomato okonomiyaki suited my taste really well. 😊

The sauce was piled on generously so it stayed moist to the end, and the fresh tomato flavor kept it from feeling greasy.

We also added the mozzarella topping from the review event, and the stretchy cheese went so well with the okonomiyaki that I was even happier.

The yakisoba pork belly roll was really good too!

The salty pork belly and yakisoba matched far better than I expected. 😊

The noodles were springy with a great texture, and every bite was full of savory depth, making it a great dish to eat alongside the okonomiyaki.

In between, I took bites of the ebi cream croquette too! 😊

Crispy outside and creamy inside, it was perfect to snack on between bites.

With the nutty wasabi mayo sauce, I never got tired of it and enjoyed it to the end.

Seongsu and Seoul Forest Japanese Food: Final Thoughts on Oshi Black Seongsu

When I finished, the food on the table had been cleaned out before I knew it. 😊

From the okonomiyaki to the pork belly yakisoba roll and the ebi cream croquette, every dish I ordered was satisfying, and it was so tasty that I finished everything.

The tomato okonomiyaki especially suited me, since I usually like tomatoes, and the mozzarella topping from the review event made it even better. The side dishes, the ebi cream croquette and the pork belly yakisoba roll, were beyond my expectations too, and I was glad I ordered them together.

I liked the clean atmosphere and the griddle at every seat that kept the food warm to the end, and the staff were friendly, so I finished the meal in a good mood.

If you're looking for tasty Japanese food after a date in Seongsu or Seoul Forest, or after pop-up stores and shopping, I recommend giving Oshi Black a visit. I'd love to go back and try other dishes next time. 😊
