Sejong hanjeongsik with cheonggukjang and tteokgalbi: Bapkkot Hansang

In short

Bapkkot Hansang is a hanjeongsik (Korean set-course) restaurant on the third floor of a commercial building at 91 Doum8-ro in Sejong. The signature Bapkkot Teukseon arrives in two rounds: a first course of salad, tofu, boiled pork, mushrooms, savory pancake and buckwheat noodles, then a second course of cheonggukjang (fermented soybean stew), gangdoenjang (thick soybean paste) and tteokgalbi (grilled short rib patties) with assorted namul side dishes. With a large parking lot inside the building and a Naver reservation that gets you seated with no wait, Bapkkot Hansang works well for a family meal or a work dinner.

These days, when I'm craving comforting, made-with-care Korean food, nothing beats a well-set hanjeongsik (Korean set-course meal) table. I'd been asking around for a proper Korean meal recently and ended up at Bapkkot Hansang, a place with quite the reputation for its tidy, thoughtful spread. The taste, the atmosphere, and the kindness were all spot on — I came back genuinely moved.

Parking at Bapkkot Hansang: the lot inside the building

Bapkkot Hansang on Doum8-ro in Sejong has an in-building commercial parking lot, which made parking painless. Parking is usually the first thing that stresses me out when driving somewhere, but the spacious, well-organized lot here meant even less confident drivers could park without any worry. Not having to stress about parking before the meal even started put me in a good mood from the get-go.

Why a Naver reservation matters at peak hours

Bapkkot Hansang is popular enough that peak hours can get crowded, so here's a tip: book through Naver reservations before you go and you'll have an easy time. You get seated right at your chosen time with no waiting, and can settle into a nice spot and start your meal at leisure — genuinely satisfying. If you're planning a visit, I really recommend booking ahead. That smooth system alone made it obvious why this place is beloved as a Sejong favorite.

Bapkkot Teukseon first course: boiled pork, buckwheat noodles, savory pancake

That day I had Bapkkot Hansang's signature dish, the Bapkkot Teukseon. The neatly plated, course-style setup was really impressive. The first course arrived with a salad in a bright dressing, savory and soft tofu, tender boiled pork, fragrant mushrooms, a freshly fried crispy pancake, and cool buckwheat noodles — a satisfying opener that got my appetite going.

Every dish was seasoned without going overboard, so the fresh flavor of the ingredients came through — it was fun picking through and trying each one.

Second course: cheonggukjang, gangdoenjang and tteokgalbi

Once I'd happily worked through the first course, the second course arrived for the main meal. This second round brought cheonggukjang (fermented soybean stew), gangdoenjang (thick soybean paste), tteokgalbi (grilled short rib patties) and various namul side dishes, which I also mixed straight into my rice. The earthy cheonggukjang had a deep, standout flavor, and the umami-rich gangdoenjang together with the carefully seasoned namul mixed into warm rice was an absolute rice thief. The overall balance was delicious, and the tteokgalbi was genuinely great — juicy and savory with every bite, with a deep but not overpowering flavor that anyone, young or old, would love. It lived up to Sejong's reputation for good food.

How was the service at Bapkkot Hansang?

The staff and owner at Bapkkot Hansang were also very kind. Even while busy, they kept a close eye on guests, asking if any side dishes needed refilling and quickly taking care of things with a smile — I felt genuinely well looked after the whole meal. The food is excellent, but this warm service made the whole experience even more heartening. Between the careful cooking and the kindness, I'm 100% coming back.
