Cleansing balm for oily summer dry skin: HEEDA Jirisan Charcoal
In short
HEEDA Jirisan Moist Charcoal Cleansing Balm is a Korean cleansing balm for dry skin that gets oilier in summer. I used it to remove sunscreen and eye makeup and rolled it around my nose; it felt refreshing without much tightness afterward. Verdict: a comfortable first cleanse for my summer skin.

How did I remove summer oil and makeup?

I tend to do a second cleanse whether or not I wear makeup. In summer, when sweating and oil production increase, I used this cleansing balm as my first cleanse even on days when I wore sunscreen, mascara, and eyeshadow.

Even on days when I did not wear much makeup, I used sunscreen with tone-up and coverage benefits, so I cleansed much as I would on days when I used cushion foundation or liquid foundation.

What were the texture and contents like?

The jar contained a spatula and a plastic seal. The spatula could be stored in the holder inside the lid.

The texture felt like slightly unmelted sherbet. It was neither too soft nor too firm, and after melting it with the warmth of my hands and spreading it on the back of my hand, it applied smoothly.

How did I use the cleansing balm?

I scooped out an amount suited to how much makeup I had on and rubbed it over my dry face. I applied a little extra around my nose in particular and rolled it thoroughly, as though softening the sebum.

For me, the texture felt as though it clung snugly to my face, and it was convenient that mascara and eyeliner came off at once without a separate lip-and-eye remover.

At the end, I added water and emulsified it thoroughly until it took on a grayish cast, then rinsed with lukewarm water so no residue remained. Since the formula was black, it was easy to check for any remaining product.

Did it cause tightness or eye-area irritation after washing?

When removing eye makeup, I did not feel any stinging or irritation in my eyes. After rolling it around my nose, it felt refreshing, and I followed with a light second cleanse.

For my dry skin, which feels dry beneath the surface, my face did not feel tight after washing. It felt refreshed yet moisturized, and I thought about using it daily or treating areas where sebum and uneven texture concern me around three days a week.
