Yesan chicken restaurant for spicy cheesy stir-fry: Sijang Dakbokkeum

In short

Sijang Dakbokkeum is a chicken restaurant inside Yesan Market in Yesan, Chungnam. I ordered the shishito pepper chicken stir-fry with cheese and quail eggs to take back to Splas Resom, and it was still satisfying after reheating. Verdict: a generous, spicy chicken-and-beer pick for a Yesan trip.

Yesan Market parking and finding Sijang Dakbokkeum

I went on a trip to Splas Resom in Yesan and heard there was a great chicken stir-fry spot at Yesan Market, so of course I had to go! Sijang Dakbokkeum (시장닭볶음) ⭐️success⭐️. Seriously delicious!!

The Yesan Market parking lot was huge and well organized. When you go to Sijang Dakbokkeum, search for “Yesan Market Entrance,” park in the lot out front, and head in. Parking is free!!! This is something I really love whenever I travel outside the big cities. Parking is super cheap or almost always free haha.

Why is the Yesan sky so pretty... 🌆 Such a perfect day for Sijang Dakbokkeum, hehe ><

Once you park at the Yesan Market Entrance lot, you will see the entrance to the market—this is Gate 3! The Sijang Dakbokkeum sign is right there at Gate 3!! It does not list the location, so I will tell you exactly how to get there!!

How to reach Sijang Dakbokkeum from Gate 3

There are clear signs and maps inside the market, so you only need to follow them!

Kiosk ordering and menu prices

The owner greeted us warmly as we entered~!! The place was much cleaner than I expected, and you can see right into the kitchen. Maybe that is why the smell of chicken stir-fry drifting out made me want to eat even sooner 🤤🤤 Order at the kiosk and choose whether you are dining in or taking out!!

The shop interior itself was spotlessly clean✨ The decor felt retro, yet like a place younger people would really seek out!!

There is exactly one menu item: shishito pepper chicken stir-fry!! You know how a place that only does one thing and is still popular is the real deal, right?? Everything is domestic Korean ingredients too, so you can eat with confidence. So important!!!!

Where do you eat if you choose dine-in?

After ordering the shishito pepper chicken stir-fry from Sijang Dakbokkeum, we looked around the market for a bit!

Spacious shared dining area at Yesan Market

Wow!!! Honestly, I was surprised. I came here without knowing anything about Yesan Market, just because I heard Sijang Dakbokkeum was good. But if you choose dine-in, you can freely eat in such a spacious area with a real market atmosphere!! I almost regretted not looking up more information beforehand.

And after about 10 minutes, you get a KakaoTalk notification like this!!

I loved getting a KakaoTalk notification, because I could place the order and comfortably browse Yesan Market while waiting! Place your order, then take a full lap around the market like I did haha.

Takeout shishito pepper chicken stir-fry with extra cheese

The chicken stir-fry was finally ready!!! Wow, the look of it.... I could not help taking another photo after opening the lid lol. It was packed with shishito peppers, plus freshly poured waterfall cheese.... I am losing it lol.

If you eat it in the market as soon as it comes out, you can have the piping-hot chicken stir-fry and stretchy cheese right away ㅠㅠㅠ It would be even better, I think. We took ours back to Splas Resom! Splas Resom and Yesan Market are about 20 minutes apart by car!

Our room had a microwave, so we reheated it there. The container said it was microwave-safe, so we cracked the lid open slightly and heated it for about 1 minute 30 seconds more! Once heated, it was like freshly made chicken stir-fry again ><

Reheated takeout shishito pepper chicken stir-fry

The portion was much more generous than I expected!! It is really plentiful for two people! For three, it might feel a little short as the main dish, so adding a side would be just right. (It is enough if you are eating it with rice!) The shishito pepper chicken stir-fry was our main dish for two, and we were soooo full. Plus one bowl of rice each!

And true to its name, it had a ton of shishito peppers. The lightly spicy flavor kept making me reach for more, and the seasoning had soaked in beautifully—best👏🏻

The chicken stir-fry itself was seriously!!! delicious. It is on another level from a chain.... lol. The chili oil was worked nicely into the sauce, so it was not greasy and had a clean flavor? The heat is lightly spicy but still delicious and easy to eat! Just enough to make your nose run a little lol. But if you do not handle spicy food well, or you are eating with young children, it would be good to ask the owner to adjust the spice level when ordering!!!

Pull off some chicken meat and have it in one bite with cheese and shishito pepper. Total honey-level deliciousness. We did so well adding the quail eggs >.< The quail egg add-on is ₩2,000, and there were so many of them that I was super satisfied!!! Such good value!!!

A chicken dish for a late-night meal absolutely needs beer, so we cracked open canned beers.

Realllly, make sure you have it with beer!!! It was so good... Sijang Dakbokkeum is the best beer snack.

I usually cannot drink much canned beer, but with the chicken stir-fry, it went down so easily...??? I drank almost two cans lol.

Final thoughts on Sijang Dakbokkeum at Yesan Market
