Naebang Station pie café: all 8 flavors tasted, Hodukkakki Brothers

I found my walnut pie place of a lifetime. I'm so happy I discovered Hodukkakki Brothers (호두까끼형제) through the Supermembers app, and the moment I tasted it, I thought of both our parents. It tasted like a cake and a walnut pie combined, so it was even better, and it felt like a healthy treat too. (It looks like a good gift for a first meeting between families, too.)

I tried every flavor of Hodukkakki Brothers pie (all 8)! Let me start my review of the Bangbae Hodukkakki Brothers~!

Hodukkakki Brothers Bangbae branch: location, hours and parking

The Hodukkakki Brothers Bangbae branch is at 21-1 Seocho-daero 27-gil, Unit 101, JL Building 1F, Seocho-gu, Seoul, and there is no parking. Hodukkakki Brothers has a Bangbae branch and a Yangjae branch, and I visited the Bangbae one.

You can feel the fairy-tale vibe from the outside, right? It somehow feels foreign, like somewhere abroad. It was so pretty that I stood there looking at it for a good while before going in.

Open the pretty door and a nice, cool shop greets you. The inside of the Bangbae branch is pleasant and clean, and above all it felt cozy, maybe because of the color of the furniture.

Hodukkakki Brothers menu: are there drinks besides pie?

Besides walnut pie, Hodukkakki Brothers has a wide range of drinks: coffee, ades, lattes, tea and more. I thought they only sold walnut pie, and only found out when I saw the menu.

They seem to take care over their coffee beans too. There are especially lots of ades, so next time I'd like to have an ade with my pie. Pies can be bought as an assortment or as a single flavor, and there are 8 flavors.

I ordered the Hodukkakki Brothers Premium Mix Pie, and it comes in a pretty, sentimental box.

It was prettier than I expected, so I went "wow~!"

✅ Regular Hodukkakki Brothers pies keep 7 days in the fridge or 30 days in the freezer, and cream pies are best eaten within 3 days. They're pies you eat cold: take one out of the fridge and eat it after 5–10 minutes.

• They say the crust is healthy and mild, made with organic wheat flour and Korean rice flour.
• They say they use 100% milk unsalted butter from grass-fed cows in unpolluted regions of New Zealand.
• They say they use domestic wildflower and acacia honey, which they've kept using for 3 years.
• They say they make their bases themselves in the shop without refined sugar: cream filling, milk cream, chocolate syrup, strawberry jam and so on.

No matter how many times I look, the look is so pretty ✨ It felt like a special day, like receiving a gift, and put me in a good mood. They also give you white milk to go with the pie. Time to dig in!

What all 8 Hodukkakki Brothers pies have in common is plenty of nutty, generous walnuts. My number one pick was the cream cheese walnut pie, number two was the milk cream walnut pie, and number three was the matcha cream walnut pie.

Cream cheese walnut pie (my #1 pick)

The cream cheese walnut pie is a walnut pie topped with cream cheese, and the texture and taste of the cream cheese were so luxurious that I smacked my husband's shoulder right after the first bite. (Sorry 😭) With a face of pure truth. If you like cheese, you have to try this one. It's my number one.

Sweet pumpkin pie

The sweet pumpkin pie has no nuts. It tasted mild and healthy, as if good-quality pumpkin had been steamed and placed on top. The nutty flavor of the pumpkin went really well with the crust.

Milk cream walnut pie (my #2 pick)

The milk cream walnut pie tasted like the animal milk cream in a really good cake. It doesn't feel out of place, it's nutty and gently sweet, so it was my number two. It's a pie, but it sometimes felt like a cake.

Hazelnut cacao pie

The hazelnut cacao pie had a brownie-like texture and flavor. The sweetness isn't artificial, so I think kids and chocolate lovers would like it. The hazelnut aroma is subtle~

Signature walnut pie

As expected, the signature walnut pie needs no explanation, it'd hurt my mouth to say more. The walnuts packed into the crust and the cinnamon aroma go together harmoniously. It felt like simple is best, and again it isn't very sweet, so the natural flavor of the walnuts comes through well.

Matcha cream walnut pie (my #3 pick)

In the matcha cream walnut pie, a subtle matcha aroma spreads through the nutty walnut pie and the softness of the cream is added, so it's easy to eat without feeling heavy. Number three... how many picks do I even have? Matcha fans, definitely give it a try.

Original pecan pie

The original pecan pie is a classic-style pie where the rich nuttiness and sweetness of pecans blend well. The texture of the nuts stays alive, so you get the most classic charm.

Macadamia cheese pie

The macadamia cheese pie combines the buttery nuttiness of macadamia with the soft flavor of cheese, giving a rich, luxurious taste.

There wasn't a single flavor I thought was meh, so it's probably best to choose according to your taste! One drawback: with the cream-topped pies, even refrigerated, the crust gets moist quickly, so eating them the same day seems tastiest!

Are Hodukkakki Brothers pies a good gift, and would I go back?

The Bangbae branch pies looked good for people who don't like sweets, for parents, and as a gift for a first meeting between families. Honestly I visited with no expectations, but the cream-topped pies were really delicious. It feels like a cake and a walnut pie combined, doesn't it?

The look is pretty too, so it seemed fine as a gift for someone who doesn't like cake. They can be frozen as well. Especially since people who don't like sweets would probably enjoy them, I think it works as a gift for a first family meeting, and the ingredients are clean, so I think you could feed them to kids without worry!

If you're looking for a café near Naebang Station or a dessert in Bangbae, I recommend it. I would very much like to revisit the Hodukkakki Brothers Bangbae branch.
