Danyang market garlic bread, two boxes split with coworkers: Danppang

Gugyeong Market is one of the top spots to check out on a Danyang trip, and it's packed with garlic-based food. Among them, the most popular seemed to be the garlic bread at Danppang Bakery (단빵제빵소), so I stopped by.

Where Danppang Bakery is and when it opens

Danppang Bakery is at 36 Dojeon 4-gil, Danyang-eup, Danyang-gun, Chungcheongbuk-do, inside Gugyeong Market. It's open daily 10:30–21:00, last order at 19:30, and bread starts coming out after 10:30am. They close early once ingredients run out.

Since Danyang is famous for garlic, I was curious how good Danyang-style garlic bread could really be — and Danppang Bakery caught my eye as the well-known garlic bread spot in Gugyeong Market : ) It's been featured on several TV shows as the original garlic bread, which seems to have made it even more popular. The waiting line was pretty long!!

How long is the wait for freshly baked garlic bread?

While waiting at Danppang Bakery, you can watch the garlic bread being made right in front of you. It bakes in the oven right next to the line, so you can tell how many minutes until the next batch comes out — and get it fresh out of the oven, which was great.

The four garlic bread flavors at Danppang Bakery

Danppang Bakery in Danyang had quite a variety of garlic bread — you could choose between cream cheese garlic bread, black garlic cream cheese garlic bread, sweet potato custard garlic bread, and baguette garlic bread.

I usually go for the four-flavor set, since having all four flavors packed into one box also makes it look great as a gift. The lady in front of us said she'd bought some before on a past Danyang trip and this time bought 7 boxes to give as gifts haha.

The four-flavor set is ₩14,000; 2 crispy-outside baguettes + 2 cream cheese is ₩13,000; 4 cream cheese is ₩15,000; the crispy-outside baguette set is ₩12,000; and singles are ₩3,900 / ₩4,300. We ordered two boxes of the four-flavor set.

Back home, when I opened the box, the garlic smell was already wafting out and it looked so good. Each piece has a different filling — custard cream, cream cheese, and so on — so it's easy to pick your favorite depending on your taste.

The best flavor: sweet potato custard garlic bread

Of all of them, my favorite was the sweet potato custard garlic bread with custard cream inside. The label said to reheat at home in an air fryer or oven at 165°C for 3 minutes, so I gave it a quick spin in the air fryer and it tasted even better ❤️

The garlic bread was packed with sweet custard cream inside, so you get the garlic aroma and the sweetness together — a perfect dessert to have with an Americano after a meal : )

Garlic bread gift sets as a Danyang travel souvenir

Whenever I travel around Korea, I like to buy the famous local bread or dessert to share with people or give as gifts. On this Danyang trip, Danppang Bakery's set with several flavors in one box seemed like a really good souvenir option.

Of the two boxes, we ate one at home with family and took the other to the office to share with coworkers — everyone said it was delicious and dug right in. The garlic bread pieces are also pretty big, so they're perfect for sharing with a group!

What to know before visiting Danppang Bakery

Since it's inside Danyang's Gugyeong Market, it's easy to get to, and with the variety of garlic bread flavors, good taste, and clean packaging, if you're wondering what to buy as a Danyang trip souvenir, this is worth trying : ) The wait can be pretty long, so I'd recommend visiting with some time to spare — browse other parts of the market first, or come after a meal.
