Where is Usul? 4 minutes on foot from Jungang-ro Station Exit 4
Usul, a Daeheung-dong pub in Daejeon, sits just 4 minutes on foot from Exit 4 of Jungang-ro Station! I hadn't been to Daejeon in a while and this fusion Korean restaurant was my first meal there — the vibe was great for a wedding-invitation get-together too.

Usul's hanok-style interior, and being the first customers at 4:30pm on a weekday
Usul's interior is done up in a hanok (traditional Korean house) style. And there are more of those cute jangdokdae drawings here too. They get cuter the longer you look,,,, I know right,,,,,
I took a half-day off and my friend had shortened work hours, so we visited early at 4:30pm on a weekday and ended up being the first customers. That meant we got to see the place spotless, and other guests started steadily coming in from around 5pm!
Usul's side dishes: white kimchi and pickled garlic scapes
At Usul, this Daeheung-dong restaurant in Daejeon, the basic side dishes are white kimchi and pickled garlic scapes. That garlic scape pickle was so good — tangy and crunchy, I kept reaching for it.
Reserved-seat note on the tablet, plus wifi and bathroom passwords
We had booked in advance, and the tablet on our table showed our seat marked as reserved. First time I've seen a reserved-seat tag on a tablet like that,,,, so cool.
And the tablet had the wifi password and even the bathroom password written on it. Such a nice touch,,,,, but after I memorized it carefully, there was already a piece of paper with the password taped outside the bathroom door lol. Everyone's bathroom,,,,

From the menu at Usul, this fusion Korean restaurant in Daeheung-dong, Daejeon, I picked three things.

We sat where we could look out the window, and the floor-to-ceiling glass gave us a lush green view — loved it. Ha,,,,, exactly the kind of scenery and brightness you want for drinking,,,,, I bet it's pretty when it snows in winter too. I should come back to Daejeon in winter, haha.
How Usul's gochujang yukhoe with fried tofu rolls tastes
The gochujang yukhoe with fried tofu rolls I'd been looking forward to!! Tasted exactly as good as it looked. The raw beef was fresh and perfectly seasoned. A win on looks and on taste.
Good side dish, followed by a shot of soju. Lol. Cute little glass. I'll pace myself a bit,,, it's so sweet it goes down easy,, I handed the bottle over to my friend, our resident heavy drinker,,
Clear gomtang vs. chodang sundubu gomtang at Usul
You can't have soju without some broth, so I ordered the clear gomtang. There were two soup options — the clear gomtang and a red-broth chodang sundubu gomtang — and I was craving something clean, so I went with the clear one! Simple and delicious. A flavor pretty much everyone would like.
Basil doenjang cream sujebi tastes best mixed together
Then our friend, who got off work later than usual because of unexpected overtime, arrived, and we ordered the basil doenjang cream sujebi. Can't resist carbs, ugh. It was tasty even before mixing in the basil pesto, but once the basil got stirred through, the extra aroma made it even better. The crushed pepper keeps it from being purely rich — rich and spicy at once, so it goes down even easier, haha.
