Hanppong is a new galbitang (short rib soup) and gukbap (rice soup) restaurant in Dunsan-dong, Seo-gu, Daejeon. What kind of restaurant is Hanppong in Dunsan-dong?
Hanppong is a new galbitang and gukbap specialty restaurant in Dunsan-dong. The mountain-high galbitang, limited to 130 servings a day, is ₩12,000, and you can also get herbal batute, doganitang, mountain-high bone soup, Korean beef ox head gukbap, bone broth pork gukbap, and blood sausage haejangguk.

I visited Hanppong, a new spot in Dunsan-dong! Hanppong is a galbitang and gukbap restaurant made with a lot of care -

Hanppong's layout and seating: is it good for solo diners?
You can enter Hanppong from either the front or back door, with the self-serve bar, kitchen and counter in the middle. I was seated in a nice cool spot with good AC.
There were places to hang coats and even a baby chair. Solo diners and big family groups alike were coming in. It seems like it'll be packed with nearby office workers on weekdays, haha!

How to eat Hanppong's spicy silbi kimchi
One thing that stands out at Hanppong is that it comes with spicy silbi kimchi, and there's even a guide on how to eat it well. Chop the silbi kimchi small, separate the meat, and mix it into the broth -
I ate it that way, and my companion had it with the clear broth instead — both were great in their own way! And right now, for the opening event, leaving a review gets you an instant scratch lottery ticket!! I think that's such a fun idea haha.

Let me show you the silbi kimchi visual first haha. You get two side dishes — silbi kimchi and radish kimchi — and if that's not enough, you can freely use the self-serve bar! It was so good I went back for seconds. Spicy but so charming, this silbi kimchi keeps popping into my head..👍

Hanppong's menu and how busy it gets
I liked that Hanppong has a description for every single menu item. This shot is of the front tables — and 3 tables were already reserved, whoa.
Hanppong Mountain-High Bone Haejangguk
Hanppong Doganitang
Hanppong Korean Beef Ox Head Gukbap
Here are a few of the menu descriptions I found memorable -

Eating the mountain-high galbitang, step by step
Now it's time to get ready to eat. Set out the spoon, soy sauce-wasabi sauce, rice and side plate, then cut the kimchi and radish into bite-sized pieces -

There are aprons too, so if you're wearing white, grab one!

The galbitang meat also comes separated from the bone and cut into nice bite-sized pieces for easy eating. The portion was generous and the meat was tender, which I liked.

Then they mix the rice right in! Once mixed, the seasoning was just right. Top it with silbi kimchi and it's the kind of flavor you keep wanting to eat, haha.

Coffee after the meal and parking at Hanppong
There's dessert coffee set up near the front of Hanppong, so grab a cup after your meal, and parking is available both front and back — good to know. If you're looking for a good restaurant in Dunsan-dong, how about Hanppong?
