Keimyung University soba shop: summer soba set for two, Myeonsikdang
In short
Myeonsikdang Keimyung University Branch is a Japanese restaurant on the 2nd floor of the 7-Eleven building in front of Keimyung University's east gate in Dalseo, Daegu. A lifelong Seongseo local arrived a little before the dinner rush and ordered the two-person set (2 mains + 2 sides + 1 ade), sharing pan soba (tray soba with dipping sauce), cold soba, katsu and cheese katsu; ramen costs 7,900 won, rice bowls start at 8,500 won, rice is free and soup toppings are self-serve. Verdict: Myeonsikdang serves so much food that two people could barely finish it.

Today, as a true Seongseo local, I want to introduce a Keimyung University favorite: Myeonsikdang!

Wait, you can pre-apply a coupon when booking?
Before I dive in, the most touching thing — introverts will relate — is that even when you want to use a coupon, it's hard to actually say so out loud, right? (I know I'm not the only one who feels this way...definitely.) Here, you can pre-apply the coupon you want to use right when you make your reservation!! I was so quietly moved inside... (I didn't use it this time, but I wanted you all to know this option exists haha)
Myeonsikdang Keimyung University Branch is on the 2nd floor above the 7-Eleven at the east gate
The location is right in front of Keimyung University, so it seems perfect for university students to use for lunch and dinner on weekdays. On weekends, it seems like a lot of neighborhood office workers like me use it too! It's on the 2nd floor of the 7-Eleven building right at the university's east gate.

Free rice is rare these days... you growing sprouts out there who are always hungry, eat a lot at Myeonsikdang! (Sorry, I tried acting like an adult there haha)

A price list with ramen at ₩7,900 and rice bowls from ₩8,500
But true to a university street spot, the prices are just so kind... Ramen at ₩7,900? No way, that can't be real. And rice bowls start from ₩8,500... isn't a basic meal these days over ₩10,000? Here you can really enjoy yourself without worrying about the cost!!!! I haven't seen prices like this in ages... (definitely becoming a regular)

Myeonsikdang is on the second floor and there's an elevator too! (Grandmas and grandpas could come without any hassle haha) We bravely took the stairs instead.

My heart was racing standing at the door — huh, it looks smaller than I expected, I thought.

Interior seating, window seats, and room for group gatherings
The inside actually had so many tables!! It's spacious with plenty of tables, so it seems well-suited for group gatherings too!

The window seats felt so open, I loved it!! We went a bit before the dinner rush (hunger issues), so there were only about three tables of other customers. But the delivery orders seemed to keep coming in nonstop... (delivery riders kept coming up)

After eating, it looks like you just leave your tray at the bus tray return! The aprons are disposable too, so you can eat hygienically and easily.

A self-serve corner where you add as much broth topping as you want
There's one more good thing here.. (secret, whisper) you can add as much topping to the broth as you want, yourself. Isn't that amazing? Am I the only one moved by things like this? haha I loaded mine up with toppings and drank it all up haha

The broth genuinely tastes like real udon broth, rich and delicious... (not one of those watery-tasting ones from certain places!!) The pickled radish was crisp, not mushy, and the kimchi was tasty too!

The panzoba and cold soba we ordered from the two-person set
We ordered the two-person set! The two-person set comes with 2 mains + 2 sides + 1 ade. I got panzoba (hot sauce soba) with katsu as my side, and my friend got cold soba with cheese katsu as their side, and we shared the sides! The soba here had no unpleasant smell at all and was so delicious!!! The noodles were exactly the texture I love... so refreshing, perfect for summer. The quality for this price is almost unreasonable... (I'm definitely going to be a regular)

Cheese katsu, the menu item I'll order as a main next time
The regular katsu was tasty too, but this cheese katsu is a real treasure. Wasn't this place actually a katsu specialty shop originally... It was so piping hot and delicious!!! The cheese was rich and there was so much of it, genuinely delicious. Next time I come, I'm ordering cheese katsu as my main dish. (I'm saying I fell hard for the cheese katsu haha)
Oh and the portions are seriously huge lol. It's really the perfect restaurant for a university street!! Why didn't my own university have a place like this... The two of us really struggled to finish the two-person set, I thought I was going to burst. I'm so happy I found a place with this quality for this price 🙌🏻

And one more thing that genuinely touched me... (why am I so easily moved lol) the staff were so, so kind... I think things like this matter a lot too... honestly, good service just makes everything more touching, doesn't it?

One-line summary
To sum up Myeonsikdang in one line: my own neighborhood restaurant that moved me with its prices, moved me with its portions, moved me with its quality, moved me with its flavor, and moved me with the staff's kindness. (Though I might be the only one who didn't already know about this Seongseo Keimyung favorite)
To all my fellow Seongseo residents and Keimyung University students!! Make sure to try the soba and cheese katsu at Myeonsikdang!
