New seokgalbi ribs with a friend at Imga-ne Ureong Ssambap, Palgongsan

In short

Imga-ne Ureong Ssambap is a ssambap (wrap-rice) Korean restaurant on Seochon-ro in Dong-gu, Daegu, near Palgongsan mountain. After a morning coffee with a friend, the writer ordered the new seokgalbi (grilled short rib) menu via kiosk, enjoyed unlimited wrap vegetables and side dishes, and finished with house-made sikhye (sweet rice punch). With ample parking and a baby chair on hand, it's an easy pick for a family meal too.

Hey there! It's me, Naechwihyang, enjoying another good lunch today and taking over the room now that my son's out.🤣 It's gotten a lot cooler out.. even my heavy body feels lighter these days.. the only problem is it's just a feeling.😝

The restaurant I visited today is Imga-ne Ureong Ssambap near Palgongsan. Today a friend and I had morning tea at Butter, and on the way out I said, want to grab lunch? I heard the ssambap near Palgongsan is good.

If it's tasty, I'm in~ let me tell you where it is~

Imga-ne Ureong Ssambap hours and location

Here are the hours too!

Monday – Sunday 10:30 – 20:00

The address is 126 Seochon-ro, Building B, 1st floor, Dong-gu, Daegu, South Korea.

Now that school break is over and I've got a bit more breathing room, I get to enjoy morning cafés and a leisurely ssambap lunch with a friend — happy Naechwihyang.🤣 On my way home I heard this place was good, looked it up, saw it opens at 10:30 and is close to Butter, the taste was already vouched for, and it's also a sponsor — jackpot!!! I'd already heard it was delicious, so the sponsorship is just a bonus~~

Is parking easy?

The parking lot is spacious, right? Parking really matters when you're heading to any place. A cramped commercial district with nowhere to park just makes my head hurt thinking about it. True to its Palgongsan location, Imga-ne Ureong Ssambap has plenty of parking. Next door is the Vietnamese restaurant Poyeon.

Pretty flowers and nice trees seemed to be watching over the parking lot.

You can also enjoy a leisurely cup of coffee here.

House-made sikhye — a must-try glass

The house-made sikhye (sweet rice punch) was clearly homemade — it's not too sweet for sikhye standards, and it was so good. Kind of strange, actually. In Daegu we also call sikhye 'dansul' (sweet liquor), so it's supposed to be a sweet drink, yet this wasn't overly sweet and was delicious even without being sweet.. I really recommend having a glass after your meal.

Menu, prices, and ordering by kiosk

You order via kiosk. Except for the new seokgalbi (grilled short rib) menu, it's ₩15,000 for unlimited refills.. not expensive at all. There are more rice-based dish options than you'd expect. The table next to us was having nakji (octopus) and said it was delicious. We ordered the new seokgalbi menu.

Atmosphere and family-meal friendliness

There used to be lots of gift shops selling dolls like these, and memories like that just bring a smile to your face.

I can spot a baby chair too. Family gatherings should be no problem here, right?

Even the window seats weren't left plain — decorated with viewing stones and dolls, which I found impressive.

Unlimited wrap vegetables and side dishes

I knew the wraps were unlimited, but the side dishes are unlimited refills too. Oh~ every one of the basic side dishes was delicious!!

Unlimited refill station for basic side dishes

The kitchen is almost fully open. With unlimited wraps meaning customers going back and forth a lot, it has a 'come at us if you dare!' kind of confidence.. I like it👍 The warm, cozy wood-and-wallpaper interior adds to the comfort.

Following the side dishes, the wrap vegetables are also unlimited.

The restroom is neatly tucked right by the front entrance too.

Restroom entrance located by the front door

Tables run along both sides of the front entrance, with the kitchen and restroom in the middle. Off in the back, there was a middle-aged gentleman who really gave off an artist's vibe (the owner, I'm guessing?) working away, and he was quite startled when he saw me with my camera. (He gave off a bit of a Na Hoon-a vibe too, just my personal impression.) He must've been alarmed by the camera-wielding invader. My apologies.🙏

Next to the drinks fridge they've also got chaga mushroom tea, and what looks like a serving robot.. probably used on weekends or busy hours?

These quirky little dolls made my friend ask, what are you doing here??🤣

How was the ureong ssamjang and seokgalbi?

Here are the basic side dishes before the main. All delicious.

Basic side dishes laid out before the main course

The ureong ssamjang (fermented soybean paste with river snails) tasted like it was made from properly fermented soybeans — it even had a bit of a jjajang flavor, and the snails were boiled so tender that it was fantastic both wrapped in the vegetables and dipped with white wood ear mushrooms.

Ureong ssamjang and white wood ear mushrooms

Here's the main dish, seokgalbi. It's not heavily seasoned, but maybe because the meat is so fresh, there's zero smell. It comes with white wood ear mushrooms grilled alongside, which are heavenly dipped in the ureong ssamjang. The table was pretty full, right?

The japchae (glass noodle stir-fry), which I already love, was great too, and honestly there wasn't a single side dish that wasn't tasty — the kind every Korean grows up knowing. The japchae had well-cooked noodles with a light dusting of pepper that really brought out the flavor, and the seasoned namul (blanched vegetables) tossed in a soybean paste sauce was seasoned just right. The vegetable salad had a black sesame dressing that was sweet and nutty with a hint of tang, making it even better. I ate so much I was stuffed. Haha.

And the rice?

I'm the type who can't stand a place with bad rice, and this rice left no room for complaint.. freshly cooked rice mixed with black rice.. I only have two hands so I feel like I'm not doing it justice by describing it briefly ㅜㅜ I'm genuinely bad at multitasking. But the rice.. it was really that good. How could freshly cooked pot rice made with good grains not taste amazing?💗

In summary

Built around ssambap, Imga-ne Ureong Ssambap puts together a lineup of healthy main dishes — grilled mackerel, bulgogi, nakji, seokgalbi and more — and turns each meal into a generous spread with unlimited wraps and side dishes. It's a solid restaurant. If you want a hearty, healthy, and delicious meal, I recommend heading to Imga-ne Ureong Ssambap, the go-to ssambap spot near Palgongsan in Daegu.
