While looking for a place to enjoy some good barbecue, I ended up visiting Modak Texas Barbecue Palgongsan Branch. I already like meat quite a bit, and I was curious about Texas-style barbecue since it's different from your typical Korean BBQ joint, so I headed over expecting to enjoy delicious barbecue in a relaxed atmosphere.

Location and parking for this Palgongsan BBQ spot
The warm wood-tone exterior combined with the distinct feel of an American barbecue house gave off a different vibe before I even walked in. There's also a large dedicated parking lot right in front, so parking was easy.

What's the atmosphere like inside?
Walking inside, the wood-tone interior continued seamlessly, giving off an overall comfortable and well-organized feel. There were plenty of 4-person tables set up generously, which seemed good for a relaxed meal, and the table layout was neat enough that eating multiple dishes felt fairly comfortable.

There's also seating for larger groups, so it seemed suited not just for small meals but also family outings, gatherings with friends, or dinners with several people. With the exotic feel of an American barbecue house added on top, it was a place where you could enjoy the atmosphere of the space along with delicious food~🙌

The self-bar setup

The self-bar had nachos, coleslaw, salad, and sauces set out, so I could comfortably help myself to as much as I wanted.
Outdoor tables
Stepping outside the restaurant, there were tables outdoors too, each space divided so you could use it privately, which seemed good for a relaxed meal. On a nice day, enjoying barbecue outdoors would feel even more atmospheric~haha

The menu lineup

The menu at Modak Texas Barbecue Palgongsan Branch had a wide range of meat dishes, from a tomahawk set to various steaks and barbecue sets. On top of that, there were pastas and several side dishes, so it looked easy to choose according to your taste. We went with the Memphis Platter for two!
What comes in the Memphis Platter for two?

First came nachos with salsa. The crispy nachos paired with the slightly spicy, tangy salsa were just right for waking up the appetite~ It was a light appetizer to enjoy before diving into barbecue, which can get heavy, so I enjoyed it a lot.

✔️ Memphis Platter set — a platter where you can enjoy all three pillars of Texas barbecue: brisket, pulled pork, and spare ribs

The sheer visual of it caught my eye first😍 Brisket, pulled pork, and spare ribs were all piled on together, so it was a lineup where you could taste a variety of barbecue. It was fun comparing the different textures and flavors, and if you want to enjoy several kinds of meat at once, this menu seems really satisfying🙌

Along with the barbecue came salad, fries, tortillas, and corn slaw — a really generous spread. There were also several sauces on hand, so you could dip according to your taste or wrap things up in tortillas, enjoying it in different ways.
Comparing the brisket, pulled pork, and spare ribs
The brisket pulled apart softly along the grain with a deep smoky aroma, clean-tasting yet savory. The pulled pork had a moist, tender texture with a subtle sweetness that made it easy to enjoy, and the spare ribs had meat that came off the bone easily, the juices and sweet barbecue flavor blending together well!

Wrapping the barbecue and vegetables together in a tortilla was delicious, and stuffing bread generously with barbecue and vegetables to make a burger was also really good! 😋 With the meat, vegetables, and sauces all coming together, the flavors came alive even more, and it was fun enjoying it in different ways haha
Campfire marshmallows after the meal
After finishing the meal, they also brought out marshmallows, and being able to roast them ourselves over an open fire was a fun, different kind of experience. The marshmallows, toasted to a nice golden brown, were so sweet they made the perfect dessert after the meal! Roasting them by the fire made the mood feel even more special, adding a sense of fun that let us enjoy the meal right to the end.

This was a place where I got to fully enjoy everything from delicious barbecue to self-roasted marshmallows. If you're looking for a barbecue restaurant with a different kind of experience, give it a visit. Recommended 😊💕
