Daegu beef grill: fresh galbi, 9dan Set and iced coffee at Gogi 9dan

Today is my visit review of Gogi 9dan Chimsan Direct Branch (고기9단 침산직영점), a famous beef spot in Chimsan-dong, Daegu.

Gogi 9dan Chimsan Direct Branch: opening hours and parking

Gogi 9dan Chimsan Direct Branch is at 197 Chimsannam-ro, Buk-gu, Daegu. It is open daily 11:00–21:50, with a break from 15:00 to 17:00. It has its own parking lot and high chairs.

The private parking lot at this Chimsan-dong beef place is really big, so you can come without worrying about parking at all. I liked that.

Gogi 9dan menu and lunch specials

Gogi 9dan runs lunch specials, so even at lunchtime you can drop in for yukhoe bibimbap (rice bowl with seasoned raw beef), a meat set meal or shabu kalguksu (noodle soup hot pot) at a good price.

True to a Chimsan-dong beef place, the main beef items were raw galbi, skirt steak, flower rib, galbisal and marinated galbi, and there are pork belly and fresh pork neck too, so pork lovers will be happy. The 9dan Set is great to order as a set menu: it comes with yukhoe, kimchi stew, jjolmyeon (chewy spicy noodles) and sushi, so ordering it together makes for a really generous spread.

Ordering was easy with the kiosk.

Is Gogi 9dan Chimsan good for group dinners and gatherings?

The restaurant is very spacious, so it looked great for family meals, year-end gatherings and company dinners. Sitting by the window felt open and put me in a good mood, and with wide aisles and tables that aren't squeezed together, we could eat comfortably.

The restroom is inside the building and very hygienically kept, and there is mouthwash inside, which was lovely for freshening up after the meal.

They trim the meat in an open space, and you can really feel the craftsman's touch, and the work was clean. There is also a receipt review event, so it would be nice to write a review and take home a puffed rice cracker.

Play room and high chairs: Korean BBQ with kids in Daegu

Gogi 9dan Chimsan Direct Branch has a play room, which made it good to visit with little kids. I didn't realize how important a play room was before, but the older my kids get, the more I feel it.

There are high chairs too, so Gogi 9dan is a beef place in Chimsan-dong that's good for family gatherings with babies.

Cups, small plates, utensils, wet wipes, aprons and everything else you need are set out at each seat, so it was easy to use.

Gogi 9dan side dishes: how is the spicy marinated crab?

After we ordered the meat, the banchan (side dishes) came out, and every single one was really good. Big grill restaurants like this often have so-so banchan, but at Gogi 9dan Chimsan, from japchae (glass noodle stir-fry) to pickles, the sides were delicious.

The spicy marinated crab (yangnyeom gejang) in particular was so insanely good that we ordered more.

Fresh galbi platter grilled over charcoal at Gogi 9dan

Since this is a Chimsan-dong beef place, I ordered a platter of raw galbi (fresh, unmarinated short rib). It came out with perfect marbling and color.

I grilled it directly over the charcoal. You can't get this taste when you eat beef at home.

When I ate a well-cooked piece of raw galbi, it melted in my mouth. It was beef with a wonderfully tender, nutty flavor.

Gogi 9dan's 9dan Set: yukhoe, jjolmyeon, sushi and pork kimchi stew

The 9dan Set I ordered, thinking it would be good to share, came out too: kimchi stew, yukhoe, jjolmyeon and sushi made the table super generous.

Maybe because the yukhoe is made with really fresh beef, it wasn't tough at all.

I thought about ordering naengmyeon (cold noodles) on top, but since jjolmyeon was in the set I skipped it, and the jjolmyeon went really well with the beef. The sweet, sour and spicy sauce on the chewy noodles cut the richness of the meat.

Instead of plain rice, it came as sushi along with fresh wasabi, so we could make hanwoo (Korean beef) sushi ourselves.

I was surprised by the size of the pork kimchi stew. Honestly, for two people this stew and rice alone would be enough. It was packed with pork and tastier than most pork stew specialists.

Can you drink the after-meal brewed coffee iced?

Gogi 9dan Chimsan Direct Branch has brewed coffee ready after the meal. I'm an "eol-jug-ah" person (iced coffee even in freezing weather), and restaurants usually only have instant mix coffee or hot coffee, which is a letdown, but here I could make it iced, so there was no need to go to a café separately. Loved it.

Final verdict on Gogi 9dan Chimsan

Gogi 9dan Chimsan Direct Branch is spacious and comfortable, so it's great for family or company gatherings, and the meat quality was good, making it a Daegu Chimsan-dong beef place where we really enjoyed our beef.
