Modak Texas Barbecue Palgongsan Branch
On the weekend I took my child and my mom out for some good meat🥩 I wanted something different from our usual barbecue spot, so this time I decided on Texas barbecue! We went for a drive toward Palgongsan too, and honestly, from the meat to the vibe, it was so much better than I expected — the three of us ate until we were completely full.
Where is Modak Texas Barbecue Palgongsan Branch, and is there parking?

Modak Texas Barbecue Palgongsan Branch is right on the road heading into Palgongsan, so it wasn't hard to find.
There was plenty of parking too, so even on the weekend it was easy. If you're looking for a good spot for a family meal while out on a Palgongsan trip, this is worth a stop.
The parking area near the entrance even has a sun shade, which would be great for parking on a blazing hot day. A small thing, but I really appreciated it.
Inside Modak Palgongsan: atmosphere and is it kid-friendly?
From the entrance, Modak Texas Barbecue Palgongsan Branch had a different vibe from your typical Korean barbecue restaurant.
It had that American barbecue joint feel, and I could see the outdoor space from outside too — I thought eating here would be fun.
Once we got inside, the space was bigger than I expected. It's decorated in wood tones, giving it a warm feeling along with that distinctive barbecue restaurant atmosphere — definitely different from our usual meat restaurant.
There were quite a few families around, and some tables with kids too, so we settled in comfortably.

They even had a baby chair ready for little guests.
Modak Texas Barbecue menu and how to order

Looking at the menu, there was a wide range of options, from Texas barbecue platters to individual dishes and sides.

You order through the table kiosk, and since there were three of us, we got the platter for two plus added lobster.
Since we came with a kid, they gave us a cute bubble toy as a gift. Loved that little touch👍🏻👍🏻🧡

Tomato beef stew and nachos before the platter

Not long after ordering, the tomato beef stew and nachos came out first. Seems like they're meant to be a light starter before the platter arrives, but honestly, this alone was already so, so, SO good🩷🩷🩷

The tomato beef stew had meat in it and a rich tomato flavor — really tasty. It paired even better with the nachos. It was so much better than I expected that we polished off a whole plate before the platter even arrived.
Texas Platter for two: enough for three of us
And then, finally, the main platter arrived!
Wow, the portion was seriously huge. I thought a platter for two might be a bit small, but it wasn't lacking at all even with the three of us eating.
Brisket, pulled pork, grilled buffalo wings, three types of barbecue sauce, salad, cowslaw, fries, tomato beef stew, pico de gallo, and tortillas — it all came out together, piled high.

The pulled pork shredded softly along the grain, so it was good for eating with my kid too. We made it into a burger by stuffing pulled pork and cowslaw between dinner rolls, and it was so good.

My kid said the burger was delicious too and finished one right up!

The brisket had a subtle smoky aroma and was tender — really good.

It's tasty on its own, but wrapping brisket in a tortilla with cowslaw, veggies, and sauce was totally my style!

Coleslaw refills at the self-serve bar
And honestly, the cowslaw here was genuinely delicious. Crunchy and tangy, it went so well with the meat.

There's a self-serve bar near the front where you can grab as much cowslaw and other sides as you want — it was so good that we went back for more several times.

Sauces and tortillas are set out too, so you can grab more if you run out.

The buffalo wings came out grilled to a nice golden brown, juicy on the inside — really good.
Is the Texas Lobster add-on worth it?

As we were happily working through the platter, the Texas Lobster we'd ordered as an add-on arrived🦞

It's a grilled lobster stuffed with brisket, grilled onion, corn, and macaroni — and the presentation alone was on point.
The lobster meat was plump and satisfying, and with cheese on top, it had a great savory richness.
With the brisket and macaroni packed inside, this dish alone was pretty filling.
Outdoor space and marshmallows on the way out
We ate indoors, but after finishing our meal we saw that the outdoor space was nicely set up too. On a nice day, eating out there would really give you that full Palgongsan outing feeling.
After we finished and paid, they gave us marshmallows too. My kid was thrilled and went straight to roast them. Eating meat until full and finishing with roasted marshmallows made for a perfect ending🤍
With such a wide range of dishes, from meat to sides, it was fun for the three of us to pick and choose. The atmosphere was a bit different from a typical Korean barbecue restaurant too, making it a nice stop while out on a Palgongsan trip. It was easy to enjoy with a kid along, making it a solid choice for a family meal — Modak Texas Barbecue was great in both taste and atmosphere, and I'd love to come back again on a nice day :)
