While my friend and I were wondering what to have for dinner, I suddenly wanted to make a big wrap with leafy vegetables and ureong ssamjang (freshwater snail dipping paste). That is how we found Imga-ne Ureong Ssambap, known for ssambap (rice-and-wrap meals) around Daegu's Palgongsan. It was just right for dinner after a Palgongsan drive.
Imga-ne Ureong Ssambap location and parking
Imga-ne Ureong Ssambap is on the first floor of Building B at 126 Seochon-ro, Dong-gu, Daegu. Go inside the former Sopung Café, and it was easy enough to find as we followed the road in from the entrance. There was a standing sign by the road, so even following navigation alone, there was no chance of getting lost. Haneul Cheondaji, known for duck dishes, was directly opposite, and the Vietnamese restaurant Poyeon was next door.

There is a large dedicated parking lot in front, so parking is easy even if you drive. It was nice to be able to pull right in without worrying about parking on the way out for ssambap near Palgongsan. One thing to note: perhaps because it is near Palgongsan, closing time is on the early side.
Hours are 10:30–20:00 daily, but last order is at 7:10 p.m. I called to check the last-order time, reserved for two, and then went. I also ordered ahead so we could eat straight away.
The dining room and wellness wrap vegetables

With wooden decor and soft lighting, it had the comfortable atmosphere you expect from a Korean restaurant. When we went for dinner, we were the last customers. Since places around Palgongsan close early, it would be good to check the time beforehand. There were group tables and high chairs too, so it looked suitable for family meals or gatherings.
Wellness wrap vegetables were set out at the self-service bar. On the day of my visit, there were green leaf lettuce, red leaf lettuce, kale, napa cabbage leaves, red mustard greens, and kelp. Cool air kept flowing through the bar, so the vegetables stayed fresh, and signs above listed each vegetable's name and characteristics, making it easy to choose what to take.

Both the wrap vegetables and side dishes are unlimited refills, so you can enjoy a generous meal fitting for a Korean restaurant near Daegu's Palgongsan.
A dinner table of herbal boiled pork, mackerel, and snail ssamjang
As soon as we sat down, the basic table setting was already neatly laid out.

There was a wide variety of banchan (Korean side dishes), including japchae, seasoned vegetables, bean sprouts, braised burdock root, and pickles. Thanks to ordering ahead, the stone-pot rice, grilled mackerel, and herbal boiled pork were set down as soon as we sat.

Each person receives a ttukbaegi (earthenware pot) of ureong ssamjang, packed with freshwater snails. The herbal boiled pork had a good balance of fat and lean meat, and I liked that there was no porky smell. Wrapping the pork with the snail ssamjang made the flavor much richer, with the snails giving a pleasantly chewy bite.

I have been craving mackerel a lot lately, and the grilled mackerel here was great too: thick flesh, crisp skin, and a moist center. It was perfect with the stone-pot rice.

The stone-pot rice was freshly cooked with black rice mixed in, nicely sticky and delicious even on its own. The herbal boiled pork, mackerel, snail ssamjang, and wellness wrap vegetables are a set for two, and after making wraps and finishing the rice, we were seriously stuffed. Once we scooped out the rice, we made hot sungnyung (scorched-rice tea) in the pot to finish—it felt like a proper home-cooked meal.

When we came out after eating, there was a coffee vending machine, chaga mushroom tea, and homemade sikhye (sweet rice drink) at the entrance. I had a cool cup of sikhye, and it was not overly sweet and tasted clean—just right as a palate cleanser after such a filling meal.

If you want a neat, filling meal, Imga-ne Ureong Ssambap is worth trying when you are looking for a hearty Korean dinner around Daegu's Palgongsan.
