In short
Bonghwa Saenggogi Bokhyeon Branch is a restaurant specializing in raw beef (saenggogi and mungtigi) in the Bokhyeon-dong food alley in Buk-gu, Daegu. The writer ordered the raw beef and yukhoe (seasoned raw beef) course for two, alternating raw beef dipped in the house sauce with sweet yukhoe, and was also happy with the basic spread of tteokbokki, napa cabbage jeon and beef radish soup plus unlimited self-serve fried eggs. The raw beef and yukhoe course for two at Bonghwa Saenggogi Bokhyeon Branch is a good pick for first-time visitors.

What is Bonghwa Saenggogi Bokhyeon Branch like?
Bonghwa Saenggogi Bokhyeon Branch (봉화생고기 복현점) is a raw beef (mungtigi) restaurant at 16 Gyeongjin-ro 1-gil, 1st floor, Buk-gu, Daegu, in the Bokhyeon-dong eating street. It is open from 5 PM to 1 AM and closed on Sundays.

If you want to properly try fresh raw beef and yukhoe (seasoned raw beef) in Daegu, this place is worth a stop! I already like raw beef and yukhoe, so I went in with high expectations, and from the first bite I understood why it has a reputation as a Bokhyeon-dong favorite. This time I ordered the raw beef + yukhoe course for two and had a hearty meal.

What are the atmosphere and seating like?
The restaurant is in the Bokhyeon-dong eating street, so it's easy to get to, and the interior is kept clean, with a good mood for a family meal or drinks with friends. The tables are spaced comfortably so we could eat in peace, and the staff were friendly, which got the meal off to a good start.

When you think of Daegu, you can't leave out mungtigi and raw beef, and since freshness is everything with these dishes, you want a place you can trust. What I liked most about Bonghwa Saenggogi Bokhyeon Branch is that the raw beef is freshly prepared from same-day-slaughtered female Korean beef (hanwoo).

What did we order at Bonghwa Saenggogi Bokhyeon Branch?
From the menu, we went with the raw beef + yukhoe course for two. You get both raw beef and yukhoe, so the value was great too!

And unlimited self-serve fried eggs too! Such a thoughtful touch, I could cry tears of joy…

What are the side dishes like?
The basic side dishes at Bonghwa Saenggogi Bokhyeon Branch come out neat and tidy. They are mild and don't overpower the raw beef and yukhoe, so they paired well, and each one was tasty enough that I kept reaching for more. Because the sides aren't over the top, the fresh flavor of the main dishes came through even better, and the whole table felt well balanced!

You also get spicy tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes), cabbage jeon (pan-fried cabbage pancake) and a soothing beef radish soup. Every side tasted carefully made, so sooo good. No wonder it's a favorite near Bokhyeon-ogeori… 👍

How does the raw beef (mungtigi) taste?
Out came the half-and-half raw beef and yukhoe course! The glossy, bright red color already said fresh, and when I picked up a piece and dipped it in the house sauce, the flavor was rich yet clean. There was no toughness and no odor at all, and the soft texture really came alive in the mouth, so you can truly feel the appeal that only fresh raw beef has.

Especially with the sauce, which has a subtle sesame oil aroma, the nuttiness of the beef really came through, and even just dipping it in plain oil sauce deepened the flavor. It goes so well with drinks that it naturally makes you want a glass.

What does the yukhoe taste like?
The yukhoe at Bonghwa Saenggogi Bokhyeon Branch passes on looks alone… Finely cut fresh beef topped with nutty sesame seeds, shredded scallion and seasoning looked delicious just sitting there. One bite was sweet with a real savory depth, and the soft texture kept my chopsticks going. The seasoning isn't too sweet or harsh, so it doesn't mask the beef itself and you can taste the freshness. It has a different charm from the raw beef, so alternating between them was fun.

Is the raw beef + yukhoe course for two enough food?
The raw beef + yukhoe course for two lets you enjoy both dishes, so I'd especially recommend it to first-time visitors. The portion was more generous than I expected and plenty for two, and with such a solid basic spread, it was a meal with no regrets!

Daegu is famous for raw beef, so I've tried quite a few places, but Bonghwa Saenggogi Bokhyeon Branch satisfied me on everything: fresh ingredients, clean flavors and a relaxed atmosphere. If you're looking for good raw beef and yukhoe in Bokhyeon-dong, I recommend visiting this Daegu mungtigi favorite, ✨Bonghwa Saenggogi Bokhyeon Branch✨!
