In short

Galbijeong is a Korean BBQ restaurant in Dalseong, Daegu, serving charcoal-grilled pork ribs and naengmyeon. The visit included tender staff-grilled domestic chilled ribs with pa-jang scallion sauce, garlic sauce, and a lunch naengmyeon set; rooms, a playroom, and ample parking made family dining easy. Verdict: 100% return-worthy for smoky ribs and refreshing noodles.

Galbijeong hours and parking information

Today, I went out for a meal at Galbijeong, a well-known charcoal-grilled rib spot in Hyeonpung, Daegu.

A spacious dining hall and connectable private rooms

The dining hall is spacious with lots of tables, plus private rooms, so it works for group gatherings, family get-togethers, and year-end parties alike. The rooms can be divided up or connected together, meaning families can use a room on their own, while large year-end gatherings or work dinners can enjoy a private room setup too.

Baseball player Koo Ja-wook has visited too—haha. Go Koo Ja-wook of Samsung!

There is a playroom, so it is great for families visiting together. Tables 12, 15, and 5 are close to the playroom, so I recommend those spots for families with children.

A self-service bar with wine, too

Galbijeong is a charcoal rib restaurant, but it also sells wine. Usually at rib restaurants you only see soju and beer, so this was really interesting! Wine glasses hang at the self-service bar, and there are three wines that pair beautifully with ribs. You can order by the glass, at ₩6,000 each.

Meat goes well with red wine, and while I had always thought of steak when I thought of red wine, Galbijeong's ribs are thick and tender, so I thought they would pair well with it too. Having ribs and wine together at Galbijeong would make for a different kind of year-end work dinner or gathering!

A full table, from shiitake sides to pa-jang

A variety of banchan (Korean side dishes) arrived, including some unusual ones. One was shiitake mushrooms prepared in the style of tako wasabi; it was sweet and salty, with that punchy wasabi flavor.

Ssam-mu (pickled radish wraps), yangnyeom gejang (seasoned raw crab), pa-kimchi, and gungchae (pickled stem lettuce).

There was also pa-jang (scallion sauce) and garlic sauce. I grilled a rib, soaked it generously in the pa-jang, and took a bite—those gently sweet-and-salty, tender ribs were reaaally so delicious!

Yangnyeom gejangㅠㅠ I really love it, but I could not eat any that day because of circumstances, and my husband ate it all. Sob sob. Next time, I am absolutely having it.

This is yukjeon (pan-fried beef) that came out when we ordered naengmyeon. Wow—yukjeon as a basic side dish! Next to it is the sauce that came with the dwae-kkeop, or pork skin, we ordered. The soybean powder is wonderfully sweet~

You can order or request whatever you need right away through the table kiosk. Extra banchan could be ordered too, including yangnyeom gejang and yukjeon for an additional charge. What I especially liked was that Galbijeong has a children's rib sauce and kid-friendly seasoned seaweed. Many families live in Technopolis, so lots of guests come with children; I could see why it has stayed so popular as a meat restaurant in Technopolis.

Domestic chilled pork ribs grilled for you

Our ribs arrived. This was two servings of domestic chilled ribs, and at 370 g it was a generous amount. At Galbijeong, one serving of ribs costs ₩15,000 and weighs 180 g, which is a little more than at other restaurants.

It had been years since I last had pork ribs—look at that shine! The charcoal-grilled ribs had a gently sweet-and-salty marinade that was not overpowering, and they were tender rather than dry, so delicious. It would be a lovely place to come with children or parents too.

At Galbijeong, the staff grill all the meat for you, so we could enjoy it perfectly without it burning. For the first bite, we followed the recommendation and dipped it in pa-jang! Mmm~ It was truly so tender and delicious!

Then I wrapped another bite with lettuce, danggui (Korean angelica), pa-kimchi, and garlic sauce~ I disliked danggui's distinctive aroma when I was little, but now I love it. This scent that makes you feel healthy. This taste that makes you feel healthy.

Lunch special pork ribs and mul-naengmyeon set

This was the lunch special pork ribs and naengmyeon set. It comes as basic mul-naengmyeon (cold buckwheat noodles in broth), but it also comes with dadaegi spicy seasoning, so it was nice to adjust it to your taste. I first ate it with the ribs and plain mul-naengmyeon, then stirred in the seasoning later.

The noodles went down so easily~ The meat went down so easily~ It was all so delicious that we ordered more meat. Haha.

With its spacious, comfortable interior and relaxed parking, and above all the wonderful combination of tender, charcoal-scented pork ribs and refreshing naengmyeon, I am 100% willing to return. I highly recommend Galbijeong for dinner after visiting the nearby Daegu National Science Museum or Fossil Museum!
