Dongdaegu Station lamb skewers: walking to Yangbokjeom with my niece after work

I timed dinner with my niece's end of work and went to Yangbokjeom Dongdaegu Station Branch (양복점 동대구역점), a lamb skewer favorite just a 5-minute walk from my home. When I asked, "Shabu-shabu or lamb skewers?", she shouted "lamb skewers!" without a second of thought. We both love lamb so much that at a buffet we pick out only the lamb and leave, haha.

I'm told Yangbokjeom is well known enough that there's usually a wait, but today we got lucky and went straight in. The place was much cleaner than I expected, and the atmosphere left an impression.

What is the interior of Yangbokjeom Dongdaegu Station Branch like?

Dark wood-toned walls plus classic floral wallpaper give the interior a slightly exotic feel. The copper-colored exhaust ducts running down over the tables add to Yangbokjeom's own look too.

Yangbokjeom side dishes: the pickled chili we refilled three times

At Yangbokjeom Dongdaegu Station Branch you sit down and order on a tablet. After a short wait the charcoal and side dishes arrived. Not counting the peanuts, there were three side dishes, and they were seriously addictive.

The sides went so well with the lamb that we refilled them three whole times, haha. The pickled chili was especially good. If they sold it separately as a side dish, I'd want to take some home.

Generous lamb skewers and lamb ribs with no gamey smell

At Yangbokjeom we ordered lamb skewers, lamb ribs and yangttuban (spicy lamb fried rice). The skewers came out first.

How big is one portion of lamb skewers at Yangbokjeom?

Even though it was one portion, the lamb skewers were quite a lot more than I expected. Yangbokjeom lists them as 210g and 8 skewers, and while the skewer count looks small, the pieces of meat themselves were chunky.

Watching the skewers spin and cook over the charcoal, I could hardly wait to eat.

We dipped the golden-brown skewers into the spices prepared on the table.

My niece tried the zira (cumin) and said, "The more I eat this, the better it gets!" and slowly fell for its charm.

Is there a gamey smell in Yangbokjeom's lamb?

The best thing about the lamb skewers at Yangbokjeom was that I could barely notice the gamey smell lamb is known for.

If you like lamb but hesitate because of the gamey smell, I think this is a pretty important point.

Just as the skewers vanished in no time and we were feeling wistful, the lamb ribs came out. We laid the big ribs on the charcoal and grilled them golden brown, and for lamb lovers, this is naturally a happy time.

Dipping the ribs in the spices and eating them with the delicious side dishes made me feel once more that the quality of the meat itself is good.

This Dongdaegu Station lamb skewer spot was a joy for trying everything with different seasonings.

Finishing with spicy yangttuban

My niece said she was a little full, but having come this far, I couldn't just walk past Yangbokjeom's yangttuban (₩12,000).

The yangttuban, our last order, was stir-fried with vegetables, minced lamb and seaweed flakes, plus a spicy seasoning.

After eating plenty of meat, finishing with the slightly spicy yangttuban left me full but with a surprisingly clean feeling in my mouth.

Lamb skewers without alcohol: zero cola was plenty

We came to Yangbokjeom Dongdaegu Station Branch for dinner, and since we don't drink, we enjoyed the lamb skewers with zero cola. Well, there's no rule that you have to drink to eat lamb skewers, right?

Best of all, I loved having a Dongdaegu Station lamb skewer favorite just a 5-minute walk from home. The meat was good, the side dishes were good, and even the final side dish worked well in the combination at Yangbokjeom Dongdaegu Station Branch. My niece will probably ask for lamb skewers again next time, and I'll gladly show up when she does.
