Dalke Dessert Cafe is a plant-filled dessert café in Tanbang-dong, Seo-gu, Daejeon. I tried its 13,000-won apple mango pavlova with coffee and also looked at its custom whole cakes and summer bingsu. Verdict: a lovely pick for an unusual meringue dessert in a garden-like setting.
Jeonju House is a Korean barbecue restaurant in Yuseong, Daejeon, serving fresh pork belly on a cast-iron lid with house-made aged kimchi. I had three 150 g portions with aged kimchi and scallion salad, then finished with soybean paste stew and fried rice. Verdict: come for the thick pork belly, but remember the deeply flavorful kimchi.
