I visited Dalke Dessert Cafe (달케디저트카페), a café in Tanbang-dong, Daejeon, because I wanted to try a slightly different kind of dessert near Daejeon City Hall! The moment I walked in, it felt so relaxing—like stepping into a little garden—so it was the perfect place to slow down over dessert. Dalke specializes in pavlova rather than ordinary cakes, so I especially wanted to recommend it to anyone looking for an unusual dessert in Daejeon!

Where to find Dalke Dessert Cafe

A little urban garden of a café

When I opened the door and walked into Dalke Dessert Cafe, my very first thought was, “Wait, is this a botanical garden?” It was absolutely full of green plants.

From large palm-like plants to hanging plants cascading from the ceiling, greenery was naturally arranged throughout the space. The wood-toned furniture, brown sofas, and lace tablecloths all came together for a properly warm, vintage feel. Plenty of natural light streamed in by the windows too, so the café was bright during the day and photos came out beautifully!

It did not just feel like a few plants had been placed around; the entire café was styled as one small garden. That made it a Tanbang-dong café with an atmosphere that really stayed with me.
From canelés to baked treats

Alongside pavlova, one side of the café had all kinds of baked treats ready to go. There were matcha, Earl Grey, vanilla, and chocolate canelés, plus cookies, financiers, and scones. If a pavlova feels a little too much, it would also be nice to keep things light with baked goods and coffee~
Custom pavlova whole cakes

Dalke offers custom whole pavlova cakes as well as the mini pavlovas you can eat at the café.

You can reserve one for special occasions such as birthdays, anniversaries, housewarmings, or proposals, and choose from small, medium, and large sizes.

With Dalke’s signature floral style and pavlovas piled high with fruit, these seem especially suited to anyone after something different from a standard fresh-cream cake. If you are looking into an anniversary cake too, why not stop by as part of a Daejeon City Hall dessert outing and ask about a whole-cake reservation?
Summer fruit bingsu menu

The dessert selection apparently gets even broader in summer. There are fruit bingsu—shaved ice dessert—with mango, plum, melon, or mixed fruit, as well as chocolate bingsu, Dubai bingsu, and red-bean bingsu.
What does Dalke’s signature pavlova taste like?

Dalke’s signature item is its pavlova cake! Pavlova is a meringue-based dessert with a crisp exterior and soft interior. Topped with cream and fresh fruit, it is sweet but gets a refreshing fruity lift, making it easier to eat than I expected. Dalke’s pavlovas are also made without butter and are gluten-free, which gives them a different appeal from regular cake. Cafés selling pavlova are not that common, so if you have been looking for a great pavlova in Daejeon, Dalke is worth noting!
Apple mango pavlova, ₩13,000

The dessert I ordered this time was the apple mango pavlova! As you can see in the photos, it was generously topped with cream and colorful fresh fruit, including mango, so it looked absolutely gorgeous from the start.

Green grapes, blueberries, figs, bananas, and other fruit were arranged around it too, so ordering just one pavlova still felt quite spectacular.

The outer meringue was crisp and lightly crumbled away, while the inside was much softer. The sweet meringue, smooth cream, and tangy fresh fruit made for a really well-balanced combination!

As I ate, the crisp meringue broke apart and naturally mixed with the cream and fruit, and that combination had such a subtle charm. The texture is definitely different from ordinary cake, so I would recommend it to anyone seeking an unusual dessert near Daejeon City Hall!
Coffee ordered with the pavlova
I also ordered a café latte for ₩5,000, an Americano for ₩4,300, and a caramel macchiato for ₩5,800 with the pavlova! Since pavlova is sweet, I personally thought it paired best with a clean coffee like the Americano. The café latte was smooth and easy to drink too, while the caramel macchiato would be a nice choice if you like sweeter drinks. Coffee can be changed to decaf as well, which is great to have as an option for a late-afternoon or evening visit!
Why I recommend it for dessert near Daejeon City Hall
Dalke Dessert Cafe stands apart from other cafés with pavlova: crisp yet soft meringue served with fresh fruit instead of the usual cake! The apple mango pavlova looked beautiful, and I personally recommend ordering it at least once on your first visit to Dalke for the fun of eating fruit, meringue, and cream together. With its photo-friendly atmosphere, this Tanbang-dong café would also be a nice stop for a date or a café tour with friends!
If you are looking for dessert near Daejeon City Hall, how about a sweet café date at Daejeon’s Dalke Dessert Cafe? You can enjoy coffee and sweet pavlova with a crisp outside and soft middle in its little urban garden full of greenery.
