Seoul Station gyukatsu, burner fuel topped up unasked: Ichigyu
In short
Ichigyu Seoul Station Branch (이치규 서울역점) is a gyukatsu (breaded beef cutlet) restaurant on basement level 1 of the LG Seoul Station Building in Jung-gu, Seoul, a 1-minute walk from Seoul Station Exit 10. After skipping breakfast and reaching Seoul Station at 10:40am, the writer ended up in an accidental opening-time queue and ordered the Ichigyu gyukatsu double plus karaage and shrimp tempura (7,000 won); the gyukatsu double alone was plenty of food. The standout at Ichigyu Seoul Station Branch was the staff coming over to add solid fuel to the burner whenever the flame weakened, without being asked.

I got to Seoul Station around 10:40am, and I hadn't had breakfast, so I was starving T_T I went looking for a Seoul Station lunch spot, ended up craving gyukatsu, and headed to Ichigyu Seoul Station Branch (이치규 서울역점). Which meant I accidentally did an opening-time queue... haha.

It's in the basement of the LG Seoul Station Building, so getting there from the station was easy, and the portions were bigger than I expected, so it made for a filling meal. Today I'll go through the location, the menu, and my review of the gyukatsu double and the karaage and shrimp tempura I ordered.

Ichigyu Seoul Station Branch location: 1 minute on foot from Exit 10
Ichigyu Seoul Station Branch is about a one-minute walk from Seoul Station Exit 10. If it's your first time, look for the LG Seoul Station Building first and it gets much easier to find.

Take the escalator to the right of the building's main entrance down to B1 and you'll see the restaurant right away. It's close to the station, so it's perfect for lunch or a meal before catching a train.

Gyukatsu double and karaage & shrimp tempura review

I ordered the Ichigyu gyukatsu double and the karaage & shrimp tempura. At first I wondered if a double might be a bit much, but the portion was really generous.

Even though I came in hungry, it was enough to leave me properly full haha

The karaage & shrimp tempura I ordered as a side was nice to share too, and the shrimp tempura in particular was packed full inside, which I loved.
My favorite part: solid fuel refilled again and again

What I liked most was that they kept the flame going with solid fuel! When you eat gyukatsu in Japan, quite a few places charge extra when you add more solid fuel, right?

Here, though, the staff come over on their own and add more whenever the flame gets weak. There's no need to feel awkward or ask, since they keep checking, so I could eat comfortably.

The staff were friendly too, so I felt good the whole meal.
Why I recommend it for a Seoul Station lunch

If you want a hearty meal near Seoul Station, Ichigyu is a good pick! It's close to the station and the portions are generous, so it's great before a train, and it's also an easy place to meet someone at Seoul Station.
You can park in the building's underground lot, but it's paid, so I'd suggest coming by public transport.
Wrap-up

If you're looking for a filling Seoul Station lunch, Ichigyu Seoul Station Branch is worth a visit. The gyukatsu double alone was more generous than I expected, and above all the constant solid-fuel refills left an impression.

If you're wondering what to eat for lunch near Seoul Station, or you're after gyukatsu, I recommend giving it a try~!
