Hongcheon hanok café summer menu: mugwort flower tea at Gil151

In short

Gil151 Hanok Cafe, Gangwon Hongcheon Main Branch is an 1,800-pyeong hanok café in Hongcheon, Gangwon, built with domestic red pine beams. On a family summer trip I ordered the seasonal menu Summer Road (plum cream soda), mugwort flower branch tea, a vanilla bean latte, and carrot and injeolmi (pounded rice cake) cakes, then walked the lawn and the outdoor pavilions. With both table and floor seating, Gil151 works equally well for a date and for a family gathering.

I went to Hongcheon, Gangwon with my family for our summer vacation and stopped by the large hanok café Gil151. Gil151 is one of the biggest hanok cafés in Korea, built with domestic pine beams across a 1,800-pyeong site.

Is parking easy at Gil151 Hanok Cafe in Hongcheon?

There's a spacious dedicated parking lot to the left of the entrance, so I could park without any stress. A parking attendant was also there, kindly guiding both parking and directions into the café.

This pretty hanok building is Gil151 itself.

A cat encountered in the café yard

A cute cat was the first to greet me 😍

In front of the café building there's a wide, well-kept lawn and garden.

With the main hanok house, pavilions, and a lovely walking path, this place lets you enjoy the quiet, open nature you can't feel in a busy city.

I heard the first floor of the hanok house is used as a banquet hall, while the second and third floors are used as a private residence.

Every view was so pretty that people were busy taking photos everywhere~

Outdoor pavilions and lawn area

There are also several pavilions outdoors where you can sit comfortably and enjoy your drink,

and I thought it would be so nice to spend a relaxed time outside sipping a drink on a nice-weather day.

It was a bit hot, but looking at the green nature and the sky felt naturally healing.

Inside Gil151: floor seats as well as tables

I went inside.

Stepping in, the first thing that caught my eye was the rafters filling the ceiling, and the space was full of that traditional, quiet hanok atmosphere.

Besides the table seating,

there's also floor seating available, so I liked that you can sit however you prefer.

The large windows mean you can enjoy the beautiful natural scenery while having tea no matter where you sit. I think you could fully feel the beauty of whichever season you visit in, so I'd love to come back in another season.

There were also slice cakes and various breads, though since I arrived just a bit after opening, the bread was still being restocked bit by bit.

How do Summer Road plum cream soda and mugwort flower branch tea taste?

Drinks and cake on the table
Carrot cake and injeolmi cake

Our order arrived.

The moist carrot cake and

the nutty injeolmi (rice cake dusted with roasted soybean flour) cake were so delicious that they disappeared in an instant~

The cool vanilla bean latte,

Summer menu Summer Road topped with plum gelato

and the summer menu 'Summer Road' — a new drink made with house-made plum syrup, topped with house-made plum gelato in a plum cream soda. Its sweet-tart flavor was so charming, exactly right for this scorching summer weather.

The mugwort flower branch tea has a subtle mugwort fragrance rising up~ maybe because the mood was so nice, but the tea tasted even better.

Sitting in the café, the quiet hanok atmosphere seemed to calm my cluttered mind and settle it down.
