Daegu Korean restaurant: whole-grain mustard tangsuyuk, Cafe Dongyi
In short
Cafe Dongyi Chimsan Branch is a Korean restaurant inside Samseong Changjo Campus in Chimsan-dong, Buk-gu, Daegu. Arriving right at the 11am weekend opening, the writer ordered the jeyuk bokkeum (spicy stir-fried pork) + tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork) big table set for 36,900 won. The set came with yeolmu (young radish) seasonal bibimbap, doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) and domestic-only cabbage kimchi, alongside a service bar with self-serve fried eggs and barley gangjeong. Inside Cafe Dongyi Chimsan Branch on a weekend
The inside is clean, with plenty of tables for 2 and 4. We arrived almost right at the 11am weekend opening and there were already a few customers. Guests kept coming in while we ate, so this seems to be a well-known Korean restaurant in Chimsan-dong, Daegu.

Water is self-serve from the water purifier right by the entrance. The service bar sits right next to it.

The service bar at Cafe Dongyi Chimsan Branch offers fried eggs, multigrain rice, a seasonal drink and barley gangjeong (crispy barley snack). ✴️ Side dishes are set out together when your food arrives.

Multigrain rice and barley gangjeong. I tried the barley gangjeong and it wasn't too sweet and was delicious, a perfect snack!

How to fry your own egg at the service bar
You make the fried egg yourself, and I liked that you can cook it without the oil splattering.

Follow the induction instructions to fry your egg, and wipe the frying pan clean after you use it.

The seasonal drink was warm hovenia tea.

Cabbage kimchi made only with Korean-grown cabbage
Cafe Dongyi Chimsan Branch reportedly uses 100% domestic napa cabbage kimchi. Since the Chinese kimchi uproar, I've been checking origin labels at restaurants far less often when eating kimchi, so being able to eat it with confidence was so nice!

Cafe Dongyi has several branches in Daegu, and maybe that's why there's a Dongyi Membership too. It's free to join and comes with various perks, so it looks good for people living nearby.

What comes in the jeyuk bokkeum + tangsuyuk big table set?
The pork bulgogi + tangsuyuk big table set comes with Dongyi pork bulgogi, tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork), doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew), seasonal bibimbap, side dishes and omija tea (five-flavor berry tea). While I was frying my egg and waiting, the basic table came out quickly.

Yeolmu seasonal bibimbap and doenjang jjigae
Seasonal bibimbap that looks fresh and delicious just by looking at it.

Add as much sauce as you like and mix it up.

The yeolmu (young summer radish) made this seasonal bibimbap crunchy and tangy. Tasty goes without saying, and it felt healthy too, so I enjoyed it even more.

The doenjang jjigae was deeply savory and so good too.

Spicy pork and whole-grain mustard tangsuyuk on a big hot plate
The pork bulgogi and tangsuyuk come together on a big hot plate, already fully cooked, so you can dig in right away!

The pork bulgogi had a really good spicy-sweet seasoning. It wasn't very spicy, so it's the kind of dish anyone can enjoy.
The tangsuyuk was crispy,, the crunch sound was amazing haha. You can dip it in the tangsuyuk sauce that comes with it, and the soy sauce, salt, wasabi and whole-grain mustard that came with the rice and stew are also dipping sauces for the tangsuyuk, so you can pick whatever suits your taste.

Is Cafe Dongyi Chimsan Branch good for a family meal?
Finishing with the omija tea dessert makes it perfect ~ Cafe Dongyi Chimsan Branch in Chimsan-dong, Daegu, was a happy place to enjoy tasty Korean food made with healthy ingredients. I especially recommend it as a family dining spot!
