Cheonan sashimi date after a work dinner: aged croaker, Donghae Bada

I visited a place I'd recommend if you want a great spot for a company dinner in Dujeong-dong, or a raw fish restaurant with private rooms. It's a reasonably priced Dujeong-dong favorite where even the side dishes come out neatly laid, and everything from seasonal sashimi to seafood jjim and seafood stew is so generous you can't help drinking. Let me introduce Donghae Bada Hoetjip (동해바다횟집)!

The parking lot is really big, so it was very easy to come by car. It's also well located for public transport.

Donghae Bada Hoetjip has everything from a large room to small rooms and table seats, so it's perfect for company dinners and get-togethers. I went around 7 p.m. just before the weekend, and it was already packed with customers.

I came with my girlfriend, so we sat at a table. You can feel that office workers really love this place. The moment I walked in I thought, wow, this is perfect for a company dinner, and it really was! They even have high chairs, so a private room works great for family gatherings too.

How many side dishes (sukidashi) come with the set?

As a proper Dujeong-dong raw fish favorite, Donghae Bada Hoetjip serves really generous skidashi (small side dishes served before the main). You could easily finish a bottle of soju before the main dishes even arrive.

I once had a company dinner here and was quite satisfied, so I came back with my girlfriend. These side dishes played a big part too, hahaha. The suyuk (boiled pork slices), the jeon (Korean savory pancakes) and the seaweed soup are especially charming.

Which fish came on the assorted sashimi platter for 2?

The assorted sashimi for 2 at Donghae Bada Hoetjip has a variety of fish with no cheap cuts. I'm no sashimi expert, but I'm guessing bluefin tuna, croaker and sea bream?

The platter is on the pricier side, but seeing the fish that comes out, the value seems quite good. The sashimi is out, so time for a whirlwind (hoeori) pour of somaek (soju mixed with beer), right? How could you skip drinking with this snack! Maybe because it's been hot lately, the somaek was going down really easily.

Since it came together, I wrapped the bluefin tuna too, and the white fish with aged kimchi and wasabi was really delicious!! It felt more like aged sashimi than live fish, which I liked even better. You can tell they use really large whole fish.

What's in the seafood jjim for 2, and how spicy is it?

After the sashimi came the seafood jjim for 2 at Donghae Bada Hoetjip. Wow.. when I ordered, the price seemed a bit high.. but once the jjim came out, hahaha, this place is just perfect for drinking. It's not expensive at all. For 4 people it's an even better price.

The moment I saw the jjim, I ordered one more bottle..

A staff member even cuts the jjim into bite-size pieces for you! The spice level is less hot than Shin Ramyun!

It's packed like this. Even without the sashimi, I thought coming just for the seafood jjim would be great. The lineup showed me why there are so many customers. And the version for 4 people is ₩135,000, you know?

We said we'd go for a second round after eating, but we were both so full, hahaha. I thought this is truly the ultimate raw fish restaurant in Dujeong-dong.

Is there free coffee after the meal?

At the entrance of Donghae Bada Hoetjip there are bean coffee and instant coffee machines, so you can brew a cup and take it as dessert! There's ice too, so it was perfect in this hot weather!
