Daegu Korean restaurant: post-exam Friday stone galbi, Bujasikdang

Banwoldang Bujasikdang (반월당부자식당) is a Korean restaurant specializing in fire-grilled dishes on Gwandeokjeong-gil in Banwoldang, Jung-gu, Daegu. After my eldest child finished final exams, we walked into Banwoldang Bujasikdang around 1:30 pm on a Friday with no wait. We had stone galbi with black rice, doenjang (soybean paste) stew and leafy greens from the self-serve bar. Banwoldang Bujasikdang's stone galbi is sweet-and-salty soy-marinated pork ribs served fully cooked, an easy choice for a meat meal with a kid.

Downtown Daegu Believe Heritage is a handmade burger restaurant in the Daegu Believe Heritage apartment complex shops on Deuran-ro in Suseong, Daegu. The writer went because her older son, who rarely eats vegetables, reportedly finishes everything inside a Downtown burger, vegetables included. The family ordered the Bulgogi Smash Burger, Egg Bulgogi Smash Burger and Chicken Bites, and noticed the spacious, clean dining room, the self-serve onion pickles and the kid-friendly sauces. Downtown Daegu Believe Heritage is a good place in Suseong to enjoy handmade burgers with children.

Namseong-ro, Daegu dog café with teens on summer break: Daenghaus

Daenghaus&Bingsuking (댕하우스&빙수킹) is a dog-friendly café in a standalone building behind the red bean bun building on Namseong-ro's Modern Alley in Jung-gu, Daegu, with a 1st-floor café, a 2nd-floor puppy kindergarten and hotel, and a dog pool. The writer walked to Daenghaus&Bingsuking on a weekend with their early-teen kids and no dog, and rested over drinks while the kids played with gentle dogs instead of their phones. Verdict: Daenghaus&Bingsuking is a good Daegu dog café to visit with teenagers over summer break, even without a dog of your own.

Gyeryonggak (계룡각) is a Chinese restaurant in Dong-gu, Daegu, right next to the Samseong Lions hall, with a large parking lot and second-floor rooms that suit company dinners and group gatherings in Dongdaegu. The writer visited Gyeryonggak outside peak mealtimes with a small child and ate ganjajang (dry-fried black bean noodles) stir-fried in lard and egg fried rice with shrimp, and found both dishes generous in portion and richly savory. For a Dongdaegu Chinese restaurant with easy parking that is relaxed about young children, Gyeryonggak is a good choice.
