Forgot to reserve a birthday cake? Why I went to Siznique

On Mom's birthday, I thought I'd already reserved a cake, but when I checked, I had done nothing at all... 😂 It was only after work that I thought, what do I do about the cake...? and started searching in a panic. I wavered between Paris Baguette and A Twosome Place, then suddenly remembered Siznique and headed straight there! A good anniversary cake in Daegu should look pretty, sure, but taste matters most, right? T_T

Where is Siznique at Shinsegae Department Store Daegu?

Siznique is on the basement 1st floor of Shinsegae Department Store Daegu Branch (149 Dongbu-ro, Dong-gu, Daegu, South Korea). The dessert shops are all clustered together, and Siznique is the one with people constantly gathered, so you'll spot it quickly! It's inside a department store, so parking is easy and it's great to drop by after a meal, which makes it a perfect Daegu date spot too ❤️

Does Siznique still have cakes left in the evening?

That night I went down to Siznique on B1 right after dinner, and the moment I saw the cakes, my eyes were glued, haha!! It's summer, so mango and melon cakes were the main stars, but since I went in the evening, a lot had already sold out. Still... that just means they're popular, right? haha

The mango cake in particular looked so much more delicious in person than in photos, T_T!

Siznique's summer seasonal menu and the Wareureu Cake

Siznique changes its main fruit with the seasons, and when I visited it was mango and melon season :) What I most wanted to buy was the signature Wareureu Cake (a cake with fruit piled on top as if tumbling down)!

The Wareureu Cake is designed so the fruit looks like it's spilling down from the top, and I'd always wanted to try it once... but there are only two of us eating, so it was too big T_T I figured we couldn't finish it and ended up going with the mini size, haha

How much is the Siznique Mango Top Cake mini?

What I picked was the Siznique Mango Top Cake in the mini size, priced at ₩39,000. It's not cheap, but the taste is guaranteed, so I really recommend trying it.....❤️ It's said to contain 3 whole mangoes, and I could actually see mango packed all the way up the sides, so I thought, okay, fair enough... and paid!

How does the Siznique Mango Top Cake taste?

The Mango Top Cake mini got a good reaction from the very first bite. At home we blew out the candles and cut it right away, and the moment they tasted it, my parents said "delicious" first thing 😂

Honestly, fruit cakes often just look pretty, and when you actually eat them the cream is too sweet or the fruit is meh, T_T I've bought from other places a few times before, and sometimes there was less fruit than I expected, which was a little disappointing.

How sweet is the cream, and how much mango is there?

The cream on the Siznique Mango Top Cake isn't very sweet, so you keep eating, and the mango seems well ripened, because it's super sweet and soft T_T Even though it's a small cake, the mango is packed in without holding back, so while eating I wondered whether I was eating mango or cake.. haha Mango on top, mango on the sides, mango inside, haha

Is the Mango Top Cake mini too much for two people?

I bought the Mango Top Cake mini for Mom's birthday, and the two of us finished it in no time, haha. Usually there's cake left over to eat the next day, but this time I thought, should we save a little? and in the end we ate almost all of it, T_T haha Having tried it myself, I understand why people call it a top Daegu cake place :) There's a reason people looking for a Daegu anniversary cake come here, right? haha

Was the last-minute Siznique birthday cake worth it?

I had to buy a cake in a hurry, and I was completely satisfied with the Siznique Mango Top Cake! It's a little pricey, but given the amount of mango and the taste, the price isn't a waste at all! On days like anniversaries or birthdays when you think "I really want a truly delicious cake," you won't regret it ❤️

It's also fun to have mango cake in mango season like now, and try a different seasonal fruit cake when the season changes, haha. I'd recommend it for picking up an anniversary cake during a Daegu date, or before a parent's birthday or a family gathering ❤️ Next time I'm definitely trying the Wareureu Cake! :)
