A failed perm two months ago: why I tried again at Juno Hair in Dongtan

After a perm two months ago, my hair got even frizzier and the color I'd dyed it faded too. So this fall I decided to get a proper makeover at Juno Hair Dongtan Solbitnaru Branch (준오헤어 동탄솔빛나루점), a hair salon in Dongtan. I wanted three things: smoother hair, root volume, and a cleaned-up color.

Juno Hair Dongtan Solbitnaru Branch is at 65 Dongtansolbit-ro, on the 2nd floor of Jeongrim Plaza in Dongtan New Town 1. I came by car, and after parking I took the elevator up to the 2nd floor, where the salon was right there!

I'd been looking for somewhere to get my hair done in Dongtan and ended up here. The building isn't very big, so the parking didn't feel roomy. Still, it was nice that there's an attendant managing the lot. Hours are 09:30–22:00 according to the official website, and I recommend checking with the salon about where to park and how it works before you go.

Black and wood: the atmosphere at Juno Hair Dongtan Solbitnaru Branch

The salon is right in front of you as you step out of the elevator, and inside, the black-and-wood interior caught my eye. It's calm yet stylish, and I felt good from the moment I walked in. The front desk staff were friendly, and after they confirmed my reservation I sat down to wait.

What impressed me is that the salon is split into two spaces. With the middle as the dividing point, the spaces have slightly different moods, so it feels different even within the same salon. I was told that on weekdays they mostly use one side, and on weekends they use both. It probably varies with the time of day and bookings, right?

There was also a wide range of hair products on display in the center. If you try something during your treatment and like it, it's a handy spot to look around.

Amenities: cafeteria, kids' room and more

Juno Hair Dongtan Solbitnaru Branch even has a cafeteria inside! The drink menu is varied, so you can pick what suits your taste. Having a drink while your hair is being done is such a small perk, but it really is nice, isn't it? ☕

There's also a kids' room for children. When you bring a child to a salon, you worry about them getting bored while you're in the chair, so parents will probably be glad to see a space like this. The shampoo areas also come in several different forms, which made looking around the salon fun. And when I saw there was even a diaper-changing table, I thought, wow, they've thought of these little details too haha

The treatment we settled on in the consultation: volume magic, root volume perm and all-over dye

My stylist today was Designer Sia (시아), and after the consultation we decided to do all three at once: volume magic, a root volume perm and all-over dye. I started by explaining the last perm I'd had, and told her how much I usually agonize over my root volume.

Honestly, I didn't want to do a lot to my hair. My goal this time was simply neat, clean hair! And all I hoped was that, please, at least the root volume would come back :(

“I don't care about anything else, just please bring my root volume back!”

When I got the perm two months ago, my hair actually got frizzier, and the dye faded, so it looked really messy. The top lacked volume and the bottom looked puffy, so I didn't like the overall silhouette at all. This time, my biggest goal was to get calm, smooth hair and natural volume together.

Doing a perm and dye together makes you worry about damage, right? That was my biggest concern too, and Designer Sia explained that she would work to keep my hair from getting damaged as much as possible.

The star of the day was, of course, root volume! Even when I blow-dry, my roots go limp after a little while, so I really wanted this to turn out well. She worked step by step starting from the roots, shaping the overall style.

She also supplied moisture now and then so my hair wouldn't get damaged. I could feel she was paying attention to the condition of my hair, which put me a little at ease.

The last step: all-over dye

Next came the all-over dye! As the faded, patchy hair got sorted out, it felt like it was gradually getting closer to the style I wanted. I have no idea how many times I had my hair washed that day haha The process went through many stages, so it took quite a while.

While I waited, I drank an iced Americano and had some light snacks. Between the perm and the dye it ran long, but I got through it with drinks and snacks along the way ☕

The result: roots lifted, hair and color calmer

After the volume magic, root volume perm and all-over dye, the root volume I wanted most came back nicely, and the frizz and faded color were sorted out too. At the end, Designer Sia styled my hair and carefully explained how to take care of it at home. So kind of her haha

And now, the big moment: root volume! Wow... the volume I wanted really came back. Usually my roots go limp even after drying, which was a letdown, but this time the overall silhouette looked much neater. The frizzy, floating hair calmed down, and with the faded, messy color sorted out, the whole vibe was clearly different.

My goal this time was to become an autumn girl haha By my own standards, it's a success! 🍂 Of course, it matters that a salon makes your hair pretty, but it matters even more whether it turns out similar when you dry it yourself at home. I might mess up the volume while drying and kill it...haha But when it was finished at the salon, I was satisfied that I got the calm look and root volume I wanted.
