Every table has a cast-iron plate, which has a different charm from regular charcoal. As the sign in the restaurant explains, the meat is grilled on a plate heated to over 250°C, which locks in the juices quickly and brings out the beef's natural flavor.

You can also check the menu and information on a tablet, which made ordering convenient.

The hanwoo mixed platter and side dishes

This day I ordered the hanwoo mixed platter, which lets you taste a variety of cuts. I gasped as soon as the meat arrived. The bright red color and dense marbling stood out, and it looked fresh at a glance.

It came with several cuts, including tenderloin and galbi meat (rib meat), plus mushrooms, sweet pumpkin and shishito peppers.

Side dishes: salad, steamed egg, pickles

The side dishes were salad, steamed egg and pickles, and everything felt neat and tidy.

Hanwoo mixed set for ₩99,000: how did it taste?

What I ate at Yong Hanu Namcheon Branch was the hanwoo mixed set (₩99,000). The mixed platter of beef came out first.

Looking at the plate, the marbling on each cut was really excellent. The galbi meat especially had a great ratio of fat to lean, and just looking at it got me excited.

Up close, the grain of the meat was really alive. The fat was spread finely and evenly, which made me even more excited to taste it grilled.

Tenderloin grilled on the cast-iron plate

I put the tenderloin on the cast-iron plate to grill. Thanks to the thick cut, very little juice was lost and the outside turned crisp.

The staff also told us when it was done just right, which made it even tastier.

They cut the golden-brown meat into bite-sized pieces for us.

The moment it was cut, I could see the juices, and the aroma was wonderful. For the first bite I ate just the beef to taste it as it is.

Pairings that make hanwoo even better

I tried the hanwoo at Yong Hanu Namcheon Branch with salt, yuzu sauce, whole-grain mustard, wasabi and myeongi namul (pickled wild greens), one after another. For the second bite, I dipped it in just a little salt.

Delicious with salt alone

It was tender as I chewed, and a rich, nutty flavor spread through my mouth. It reminded me again that really good hanwoo is delicious without any seasoning.

With the yuzu sauce, a touch of sweetness cleaned up the oily mouthfeel, a different kind of appeal.

Topped with whole-grain mustard, the mild tang and richness blended together and it was really good.

Personally, my favorite combination was the wasabi.

It kept the beef's richness while cutting the greasiness, so I kept reaching for more. Eating it wrapped with myeongi namul was impressive too.

The salty savoriness lifted the flavor of the meat even further.

Galbi meat with artful marbling

After that I grilled the galbi meat from the hanwoo mixed set, and the marbling was truly a work of art.

The more it grilled, the more the nutty aroma spread, and it was full of juice too.
