Hapjeong solo shabu-shabu with extra meat instead of rice: Nahonsha

In short

Nahonsha is a solo shabu-shabu restaurant in Mapo, Seoul, midway between Hapjeong Station Exit 7 and Sangsu Station Exit 4. At a single seat facing the floor-to-ceiling window, the writer ordered the clear broth shabu-shabu, skipped the rice to add extra meat, and was happy with the peanut sauce, the strong burner heat and the kalguksu (knife-cut noodles) at the end. Nahonsha is a 100% revisit for a healthy solo dinner in a pretty room.

Looking for a solo dinner near Hapjeong Station

Today was a jam-packed day! Worried I'd miss dinner, I quickly searched for restaurants near Hapjeong Station. Most places felt awkward for eating alone, which was a bit frustrating — but oh! A solo shabu-shabu place?! It wasn't too far from Hapjeong Station, so I went without much expectation. But Nahonsha's storefront was visible from far away. Wait, what is this place? It felt like stepping into a forest garden! It was so pretty.

There are single seats right in front of a big window, so you can eat while looking out at the pretty view (and there were already quite a few solo diners there).

Why the clear broth shabu-shabu?

Nahonsha's menu is really solid! Miso shabu-shabu... mala shabu-shabu... oh! I wavered a bit toward the mala option but ended up going with clear broth shabu-shabu 🖐 The broth is made with kelp, bonito flakes, and chicken stock — clean and light. I ordered this because it's the base menu item, and it was genuinely mild and satisfying! If you like spicy food, I'd recommend the spicy broth shabu-shabu.

Three sauces, and why the peanut sauce wins

Peanut sauce, chili sauce, and soy ponzu are set out beside you. Why is this so good? The peanut sauce especially is genuinely delicious!

The place is so, so pretty. So the food ends up tasting even better.

But the food really is delicious! The vegetables are fresh, the meat is delicious, the broth is delicious — I'm definitely coming back next time!

One pot per person, even when you come as a group

There are large tables too, so it's not a problem even with a big group — everyone gets their own individual pot, which is nice for eating cleanly.

It seemed to come out quickly after ordering. It's nice not having to wait long.

The vegetables were fresh too, with fish balls, dumplings, mushrooms, zucchini, and carrots all in just the right portions.

Skipping the rice to add extra meat

Today I decided to skip the rice and go with extra meat instead! The portion was pretty big, so I wondered if I could finish it all, but as a total meat lover, I finished every bite 😆 It was so tender and delicious!

Thin kalguksu (knife-cut noodles) came out, which made me happy. Even without porridge, ending with a carb party at the end makes the meal feel properly complete, doesn't it!

Strong heat, so the broth boils fast

Put in the zucchini and carrots first. Since I was hungry, I dumped in a ton of meat all at once. (The heat is pretty strong, so it bubbles up quickly!) Strong heat makes the food taste even better, right? It boiled so fast — big thumbs up 👍

Piled in the extra meat too. When you eat alone, you tend to eat carelessly, but here I put in vegetables, put in meat, and made myself a really solid meal all on my own. Doing just fine solo 😆🖐

Look at the owner's thoughtfulness! There was even a phone stand set up, so I watched YouTube while eating dinner :) After finishing all the vegetables and meat, I added the kalguksu noodles at the end. The noodles were thin, so they cooked fast. This too was delicious, nom nom. Eating carbs at the end really does make the meal feel complete 🩷

A place where you can eat alone in a pretty space and still eat healthy. I'm practically thankful to the owner for creating a space like this ♡ Revisit rate: 100%.
