I was mulling over where to go for summer vacation in August — and of course I ended up at my favorite domestic travel spot, Sokcho! Every time I come here I always buy dakgangjeong 🤍 and among all the shops, my absolute favorite is Seomin Gapbu Sijang Dakjip at Sokcho Tourist and Fishery Market.
Plus they give you a parking voucher!! (You can park at the public parking lot 🚘)
Menu and heat levels: which dakgangjeong should you order?
Seomin Gapbu Sijang Dakjip also runs Ttogine Twigim (fried snacks) alongside the dakgangjeong shop, so the store is huge. Market dakgangjeong, shrimp dakgangjeong, deodeok (bellflower root) dakgangjeong, and garlic dakgangjeong — plus you can choose the spice level you want: mild, spicy, honey-sweet, or honey-spicy. I love that. I went with mild!!!

Come find stalls 4 and 5 on Chicken Alley at the Jungang Market. You can try a variety of menus like garlic dakgangjeong, deodeok dakgangjeong, and shrimp dakgangjeong!
Sikhye, hallabong juice and tteokbokki at the same stall
They also sell sikhye (sweet rice drink) and hallabong juice, served cold — perfect summer menu items!! 🤍 There was a bit of a wait for the dakgangjeong and fried snacks, so while we waited everyone bought one of these to drink. I overheard people next to us saying it was insanely good, haha, so I'll have to try it next time — can't wait!
They sell tteokbokki too… Is there anyone who doesn't like market tteokbokki??? Haha I love market tteokbokki!! ❤️ Such a mouth-watering visual, yay!!!!
What does the garlic dakgangjeong taste like?
I heard the garlic and deodeok dakgangjeong are the most popular at Seomin Gapbu Sijang Dakjip, so I got the garlic one!! Look at all those whole garlic cloves on it — doesn't it look incredible!! Just looking at it made my mouth water, haha. I took a bite and it was sweet and soft, melting in my mouth.

Not spicy and just sweet enough that anyone, young or old, can enjoy it — the garlic dakgangjeong from Seomin Gapbu Sijang Dakjip. Crispy on the outside, moist on the inside — seriously so good ❤️
Mulhoe, fried snacks and soju back at the summer rental
Coming to Sokcho basically kicks off a food tour, so we bought garlic dakgangjeong and various fried snacks from Seomin Gapbu Sijang Dakjip plus some mulhoe (cold raw fish soup), and had a party back at our stay, haha haha. Out of everything, the most popular dish was the garlic dakgangjeong from Seomin Gapbu Sijang Dakjip!! Everyone fell for the garlic magic .... ❤️
Oh, we also had sashimi haha + soju too!!! Drinking soju alongside the dakgangjeong makes it taste even sweeter... haha ^^ ❤️
If you ask me to recommend the tastiest dakgangjeong at Sokcho Jungang Market ~~~ it's Seomin Gapbu Sijang Dakjip's garlic dakgangjeong!! The combo of the sweet sauce and the chicken is just so good!! That garlic is totally the killer touch!! I've become a garlic lover as of today ❤️ Maybe it was extra tasty because I ate it on the last day of malbok (the hottest days of summer), haha.

If you're looking for a great dakgangjeong shop at Sokcho Jungang Market!!! I recommend Seomin Gapbu Sijang Dakjip! Generous portions and great taste — everyone will love it, haha. It's a Sokcho dakgangjeong shop that does both delivery and takeout, so I highly recommend it ❤️ This trip was a total success!!
